A "white people against white supremacy" rally and teach-in organized by the advocacy group European Dissent took place at Lafayette Square on Sunday, June 28, 2015.

The gathering honored the nine black people who were murdered in Charleston, S.C. last week.

"We stand in solidarity with black communities and other communities of color who bear the brunt of white supremacy and racism, here in New Orleans and across the world," the group said in a statement. "White supremacy is part of the fabric of America. White supremacy works through all of our systems and institutions to marginalize, silence, devalue, undermine, exploit, oppress and kill black people and other people of color."

In the last year or so New Orleans has largely stayed out of any protests from Trayvon to Freddy Gray.

The kids today are so lost. They'll do anything for attention, and it's really sad.

Kids used to hang out together, do fun things, come home for dinner, swim in the nearest lake or pond, or have friends over to their new apartments. Today, all they do is waste away and cry out for help by starting or joining some kind of rally or group they can find. It's the only type of attention or any type of "friendship" these lost young souls have access to - except for their cyberworld "friends" made up of electronic bits and bites.

These kids are so lost. They're dead inside. Rallies like these are their only excuse for living.
