Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore said the state supreme court today issued an order that effectively keeps probate judges from issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples for 25 days.
Moore said in his view the U.S. Supreme Court ruling on Friday ending the gay marriage ban is now stalled in Alabama.
Parties have 25 days in which to contest the U.S. Supreme Court ruling before it becomes a mandate.
"In that 25-day period that (U.S. Supreme Court) order is not in effect," Moore said. "The (Alabama Supreme Court order speaks for itself."
One attorney, however, disagreed with the interpretation of the Alabama Supreme Court's ruling.
"The Alabama Supreme Court did not direct probate judges to delay compliance with the U.S. Supreme Court's decision," said Birmingham area attorney Heather Fann. "This order has no practical effect. U.S. District Court Judge (Ginny) Granade already ordered Alabama's probate judges to stop enforcing the marriage ban as soon as the Supreme Court rule, and that is binding immediately."

Civil Union License is what they should call it. Eliminate the word Marriage and the the Church issue their own marriage certificate.
Interesting how a Left-favorable ruling is always “binding immediately”, while every Right-favorable ruling is always “stayed/suspended until appeal” and/or “90 days so jurisdictions can prepare to handle the consequences” etc.

I’ll say it again: 1. this is why the Democrats fight like tigers over judicial appointments and 2. the consequence of the Grand Old Party rolling-over for fear of being called “racist/_____-phobic” by the Democrats’ news organs.
ANY earlier generation of Americans would already be engaged in armed rebellion over this issue.
