Louisiana officials have begun issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

Jefferson Parish Clerk of Court Jon Geggenheimer confirmed in a telephone interview that a license was issued there Monday morning. It was believed to be the first license issued to a same-sex couple in the state.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Friday legalized same-sex marriage nationwide, but clerks around the state had held off on immediately issuing licenses after consulting with lawyers.

Gov. Bobby Jindal is opposed to gay marriage but has said the state would comply with the ruling.

Same sex marriage licenses are currently being issued, and same sex marriages performed, in Texas. All Texas has said is that individual clerks may refuse to grant such licenses, and even then only if there is someone else in the office who is available and willing to do so.

At first I thought the article was referring to license plates. Hmmm wonder what wonderful phrases will be seen.

"Gov. Bobby Jindal is opposed to gay marriage but has said the state would comply with the ruling."

We’re finding out who the low-information, high-profile politicians are, politicians who don’t know how to interpret the Constitution as the Founding States had intended for it to be interpreted, particularly 10th Amendment-protected state powers.

So, is it actually, textually different than a standard marriage license? If so, have we not set up a different class of people who will get a set of different rules and regulations?

Jindal said he wouldn’t issue any licenses until the Fifth Circuit tells them how to comply. This today was done without Jindal’s approval. The women who were married worked in the clerk’s office. They basically issued themselves the license.

I'm afraid, when all is said and done, there will be 50 of them.

ALL marriage licenses? I doubt that but maybe you know something I don’t. I know someone that got married within last two weeks. They did put a freeze on issuing gay marriages for 25 days.

I’m not sure what the whole story is, but here’s some info:

Here’s a Bing search:

http://www.bing.com/search?q=alabama+stops+issuing+marriage+licenses&form=AARTDF&pc=MAAR&src=IE-SearchBox

Note that some articles say AL stopped issuing licenses altogether.

And here’s a thread about a bill in Alabama:

I’m surprised other states didn’t follow that lead.

Oh, I see...

And, also, I just noticed that the marriage contract bill that passed the Alabama Senate died in the House.

Well, it does appear you’re right that every state is following lockstep with the USSC ruling.
