MAP: Here's where Americans are most likely to die from gun shots
Business Insider ^ | 06/24/2015 | ANDY KIERSZ AND DRAKE BAER

As last week's tragic shooting showed, guns remain an entrenched — and accessible — part of American life.

According to the Center for Disease Control, 33,636 people died due to gun-related causes in 2013, the year with the most recent data.

The national average is 10.6 gun deaths per 100,000 residents.

But that number varies widely from state to state.

The Kaiser Family Foundation assembled a table of statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on 2013 mortality rates from firearms in each state. Kaiser combined together various firearm-related causes of death, including assault by firearm, police shootings, suicide by firearm, and accidental discharges.

Some highlights:

• States with the highest rate include Alaska (19.8) and Lousiana (19.3). Alaska doesn't require residents to have a permit for carrying concealed weapons, while Louisiana does (but has fairly permissive gun laws otherwise).

• States with the lowest rate include Massachusetts (3.1) and Hawaii (2.6). Both states have some of the strictest gun control laws in the country.

33,636 people died due to gun-related causes

I'd assume that number includes people killed while committing a robbery or other felony..............................

This does not tell the entire story. Broken down by counties and then cities paints a better picture, married with population for those counties/cities.

This is ALL death by firearm.

It would be interesting to see violent death only.

Let’s talk homicides, because for gun deaths you include accidents.

Everyone knows there’s really no real men in Massachusetts or Hawaii, they’re commie feminine there.

Of course it does. This is how the left skews the data.

Remove suicides and we have a whole different map.

Deaths per 100,000 people. So high population states will show low numbers and low population states will show high numbers. Perty slick of those lefties.

I have a copy of this book from the early 50's and it's still in print. It tells all about how to manipulate 'statistics' for your own agenda.

According to the Center for Disease Control, 33,636 people died due to gun-related causes in 2013, the year with the most recent data.

About half that number are suicides. Factor in criminal on criminal homicides and the rate is much lower yet. By the time you get to innocent people killed by someone they didn't know, you're down to the same rate as in most other western countries, if not lower.

Terribly misleading graph, applying data at state level only. Show that information by county or precinct, or better yet vs population density. Even better: show deaths vs firearm ownership rates - NY is 4.2? might be surprised that “upstate NY” has a very high firearm ownership rate, and those deaths are concentrated in NYC where [legal] ownership is staggeringly rare. GA is 12.6? might find most of those deaths are in Atlanta, not the rest of the otherwise heavily-armed state.
