The Roberts Court’s Surprising Move Leftward
NY Times ^ | June 23, 2015 | Alicia Parlapiano

Posted on 06/23/2015 1:10:33 PM PDT by plain talk

The Supreme Court under Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. has been a conservative court. But even conservative courts have liberal terms – and the current term is leaning left as it enters its final two weeks.

The court has issued liberal decisions in 54 percent of the cases in which it had announced decisions as of June 22, according to the Supreme Court Database, using a widely accepted standard developed by political scientists. If that trend holds, the final percentage could rival the highest since the era of the notably liberal court of the 1950s and 1960s led by Chief Justice Earl Warren. The closest contenders are the previous term and the one that started in 2004 and ended with the announcement of Justice Sandra Day O’Connor’s retirement.

It’s not surprising to those of us that have been paying any attention.

Ruthie seems determined to NOT let obummer appoint her successor, being the only ‘white’ women on the Court proves lonely, maybe.

Maybe a prayer is in order for Ruthie’s health? /s

The fact that there have been so many decisions split 5 to 4 makes me wonder if there is such a thing as impartiality.

These should be among our finest judicial minds and they can't come to a consensus on anything.

You’re right. Bush appointed him. He was vetted. Bush and Bush’s underlings all knew everything about Roberts. If he could be blackmailed, Bush knew it. If he was a fraud and leaned left, Bush knew it.

Bammy (and ValJar) is very likely not down with appointing Jooz to SCOTUS. Bammy would love to appoint a Sharia complient Justice.

This is a (legal term follows) prima facia case for a conservative President being elected along with retaining the Senate in 2016! Just imagine the generational damage from adding a 5th Liberal Supreme Court Justice!? Strange how the MSM just shrugs and smiles about the lock-step liberal 4 Justices (Breyer, Ginsburg, Sotomayor & Kagan) but gets totally PRISSY about the 3 consistent conservatives (Thomas, Scalia & Alito) never 'evolving!'

Regardless and I MEAN IT, electing any of the GOP Candidates will give us a better SCOTUS than Hillary. Staying home in 2016 cannot be an option!

Since the Robert Bork debacle, all the appointees have been political hacks.

They're the only ones that can survive the "Advice and Consent" process.
