EXCLUSIVE — TED CRUZ: OBAMATRADE ENMESHED IN CORRUPT, BACKROOM DEALINGS
Breitbart ^ | 23 June 2015 | Ted Cruz

Posted on 06/23/2015 4:29:02 AM PDT by Leto

As a general matter, I agree (as did Ronald Reagan) that free trade is good for America; when we open up foreign markets, it helps American farmers, ranchers, and manufacturers. But TPA in this Congress has become enmeshed in corrupt Washington backroom deal-making, along with serious concerns that it would open up the potential for sweeping changes in our laws that trade agreements typically do not include. Since the Senate first voted on TPA, there have been two material changes. First, WikiLeaks subsequently revealed new troubling information regarding the Trade in Services Agreement, or TiSA, one of the trade deals being negotiated by Obama. Despite the administration’s public assurances that it was not negotiating on immigration, several chapters of the TiSA draft posted online explicitly contained potential changes in federal immigration law. TPA would cover TiSA, and therefore these changes would presumably be subject to be fast-track. When TPA last came up for a vote, both Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL)80% and I introduced amendments that would have barred fast-track treatment for any trade agreement that attempted to impact immigration law. Two other Republican senators objected, and we were both denied votes on our amendments. Instead, the House inserted substantially weaker language in related legislation.

The issue is:
Toast Cruz supported SECRET bills to give Obama more power.

There is nothing more to say, except the bastard’s
supporters have been deceitful and untruthful.

Well, bless your heart, for continuing to defend Sen Cruz on this disaster.

I was called a “communist” “progressive” “Nancy Pelosi supporter” “protectionist” “Anti-Cruz Troll” and a lot of other names by long time Freepers who are strangely missing from this thread.

Would Cruz’s vote against TPA have prevented its passage? Hardly, it passed by a wide margin. May not make a lot of difference this time either.

The proper question here I believe is is Ted Cruz still in favor of TPP.

I don’t believe Cruz ever endorsed TPP. His snow job line was in essence: we have to pass TPA to see what is in TPP. Then later Cruz said he would decide on TPP.

Now he is saying he opposes the TPA on procedural grounds . He should have done in the first place. Now it’s too little, too late.

Cruz never stated an official position on TPP, other than to say say that he didn’t see anything offensive about it and taking issues with Sessions, who did.

What Cruz did was support TPP, which removed the Senate filibuster for trade bills and allowed passage by simple majority vote of the Senate, among other process changes.

When new information came to light, especially about this possibly being tied to the Ex-IM Bank deal, he changed his vote. It will likely not make any difference since the bill passed by a wide margin last time.

Me too. As recently as a couple days ago. Maybe we should just bump a few old threads? LOL.

I could never support ANYTHING where the contents of a bill are kept secret, that’s ridiculous.

Typical “transparency” from Obama, form the most non transparent administration in history,

and shame on those stupid republicans who are supporting it.

It would be awesome if you were right, but sadly I don’t think so. Read his response and why he’s now against it. It really only has to do with the Export-Import Bank. Well there is the immigration piece but the heft the article is about ex-im.

My favorite post was the clown or clownette, who basically said "there's dissension on FR. What are we going to do about it?"

No, it’s makes a lot of difference when the conservative lion of the Senate is standing with Barack Obama, promoting a bill in an op-ed, etc. Cruz gave a lot of cover for others to vote for this garbage.

Now that TPA is apparently safely over the finish line, Cruz comes out against it. How convenient. This is Rubio & his gang all over again, FRiend.

Senator Cruz and Senator Sessions disagreed on the particulars of TPP. What got Cruz to change his position are the TiSA Bill and a possible linked Ex-IM Bank backroom deal.

I don’t know but what Cruz and Sessions still have different views on that part of TPP, but they both agree that putting in the strong immigration language should have happened, just another thing that McConnell wouldn’t allow. I detest that S.O.B. more every day.

That shouldn’t bother a single Romney voter. Afterall they accepted far worse than anything Cruz did. Many still defend it too.

Are you Ted Cruz supporters who told us TPA was wonderful going to support Ted Cruz for this? Or can you do the right thing yourself and admit you were wrong?

Well, it is possible that they were supporters of Obama having the authority to bypass Congress. And it's also possible they worked for or owned businesses that would be among the few that will benefit.

I’ll vote Iruz. He still has a strike and a half’ish to go with me. Otherwise, Palin again. And the FR libs can choke on it. Their designated liberals aren’t winning and if that means Hillary, it’s their fault, not mine. I’m voting for a conservative.

No matter what! It’s a lesser evil! ;)
