EXCLUSIVE — TED CRUZ: OBAMATRADE ENMESHED IN CORRUPT, BACKROOM DEALINGS
Breitbart ^ | 23 June 2015 | Ted Cruz

Posted on 06/23/2015 4:29:02 AM PDT by Leto

As a general matter, I agree (as did Ronald Reagan) that free trade is good for America; when we open up foreign markets, it helps American farmers, ranchers, and manufacturers. But TPA in this Congress has become enmeshed in corrupt Washington backroom deal-making, along with serious concerns that it would open up the potential for sweeping changes in our laws that trade agreements typically do not include. Since the Senate first voted on TPA, there have been two material changes. First, WikiLeaks subsequently revealed new troubling information regarding the Trade in Services Agreement, or TiSA, one of the trade deals being negotiated by Obama. Despite the administration’s public assurances that it was not negotiating on immigration, several chapters of the TiSA draft posted online explicitly contained potential changes in federal immigration law. TPA would cover TiSA, and therefore these changes would presumably be subject to be fast-track. When TPA last came up for a vote, both Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL)80% and I introduced amendments that would have barred fast-track treatment for any trade agreement that attempted to impact immigration law. Two other Republican senators objected, and we were both denied votes on our amendments. Instead, the House inserted substantially weaker language in related legislation.

I support TPA that has not been corrupted by back room deals. TPA as an uncorrupted implementation process can be good. It seems we have far more to be concerned about currently than just Obama.

If we don’t get Boehner and McConnell out, we will never be able to pass clean legislation.

Don’t be fooled by agitators. They are trying to make us, Conservatives, tear each other apart and to destroy our best Conservative candidate.

And the worse of it is, Cruz helped pass TPA in the house with his Op-Ed. TAA/TPA was our chance to kill TPP for good. Not good.

At least he saw the light. If it fails to pass the Senate, he may have saved his nomination. If not, he is toast.

Cruz was right on the original TPA. As I said in previous posts, he stated things changed since the first vote. We know it did as Boehner refused to allow CONSERVATIVE opposition to TPP.

Look, I know understanding is difficult for you and the candidate you support won’t win, but try to think on this thread some please.

BTW, Cruz is still in the top 10. He won’t be left off the stage.

No, many already said they would vote for whoever the Gop puts up that wins the nomination. Reagan is far from the ghost they want. FDR is more what they want.

Norm,

The same people blasting Cruz using the SAME talking points as before...are the same people who are too scared to admit who they support.

It is only 3-5 Freepers who do this constantly. You can tell who they are and who they support by the words they use to tear down Cruz.

I still haven’t gotten an answer from these people as to why they still bash Cruz if he lost his support?!

Not only was I not a hater, I was a fired up supporter. Then my candidate told me to take a hike.

I’m in the same boat, FRiend. I’m deeply disappointed in Cruz.

However, I can see how Cruz decided to support it. A lot was pushing him that way: Big donors in favor, general inclination to free trade, wife with background in intl business at Goldman, desire to moderate his image, etc.

IMO, this issue was the perfect storm and Cruz could not see the forest through the trees.

I use Firefox mainly, and sometimes Chrome. Someone else recommended Ghostery and I’ve now installed it on my machine. The results were so spectacular I just installed it on my wife’s machine.

I had been suspending Javascript but it was more trouble than it was worth. This fixes it nicely.

I have kept completely silent on the matter, waiting for Sessions to school Ted out of his vote, and I see he got enough proof and education to see the light. That bit of obstinance comes with a high price: can’t wear his superman
cape any more at FR.

GO CRUZ!

Ok, did we not read here on FR, that Boehner allowed for Democrat Amendments to be added but not Conservative ones?

Again, I know you have comprehension issues, but do try to keep up.

Nonsense. He lobbied for its passage in the House, and wrote an Op-Ed.

Just admit it. Cruz screwed up. If TPA fails in the Senate he may redeem his chances at the nomination. If it passes, then TPP will pass and Cruz will be toast.

I am very glad he changed his mind, I just hope it is not too late.

No, I chose Romney over Obama. Which one did you vote for? Romney or Obama?

What is it with Cruz supporters? This is eerily like Obama's first run for the White House, y'all are zombie-like.

Even though I’m a fan of Cruz, one of them accused me of “making trouble” by mentioning my disappointment in his earlier support of this legislation.
