I’m not specifically comparing the USA to any other countries. And FU for the insinuation that I don’t love the USA, or whatever it is you meant by that weird and intentionally offensive remark.
I’m comparing the relatively rich countries (which does indeed include the US) to the relatively poor countries. Why? Because all the rich countries have a number of things in common, and all the poor countries have a number of things in common.
But you’re hung up on the simplistic trade-is-bad, and don’t want to go beyond that. And that’s totally OK. I come at it from several different angles. And that’s OK too.

Yes, and I *want* that choice! I don't want some dictator imposing tariffs on foreign goods I want to buy, just to protect his rich corporate donors from competition. If I want to buy a car from a Japanese firm, or oranges from Brazil, or sugar from the Dominican Republic, that should be between me and the foreign seller. Period.
You mentioned kleptocracy in a previous post. Well, what do you call it when a Florida orange grower buys off some DC pols and gets a tariff slapped on Brazilian oranges, so that he can extract a higher price from me than I would pay if I could trade freely? From my point of view, that's theft.

Bankruptcy is a part of business law. I don't believe he's ever declared personal bankruptcy, but some of this businesses have failed, and some have gone bankrupt and survived. A high percentage of businesses fail.
This need only work long enough to allow Trump to get just enough traction to push ahead of Cruz in the polls and hopefully help to push him off the stage completely (which was the goal all along)
Some of the Cruz supporters are almost obsessive in their belief that the sun rises and sets around Ted. Do you REALLY believe that Trump has "minions" here or on other forums out to trash Ted Cruz?

Ted's in about 5th place in most national polls. He's the least likely person for Trump to attack.
Did you listen to the announcement? He takes on Rubio by name several times. I'm pretty sure he views Rubio as the front runner, as do many pundits.
Ted is going to make the debates, he's solidly getting about 8% to 10%, far above the whole third tier, which is where Trump is today.
The competition for Trump making the debates are Christie, Perry and Santorum, and maybe Fiorina. That's the group of candidates in the 1.5% to 3.5% range. Of that group only two will likely get to the debates. Right now Trump's in 9th place, so if he can hold that position he's in the first debate.
But still back-of-the-field strategy is attack the leader, not the other back-field candidates, and that is what Trump is doing.
There has always been both Free Trade and anti Free Trade contingents here on Free Republic. This goes all the way back to the Buchanan supporters back in the Clinton era. The opposition to Cruz's TPA/TPP position is completely organic, and many of it has come from long established Freepers.
It's disingenuous to claim all the opposition to Cruz's positions is drummed up by Trump, and delusional to think the Trump is focused on Cruz over Jeb, Rubio and Walker, who are the first tier candidates.
It's turning into an interesting election season.

I respectfully disagree. I get what you are saying, but there is another way to look at it, which is how more people are.
Everyone is tired of the pre-packaged, don't say anything real, avoid controversy, candidate by acclimation process that brought us candidates like McCain, Romney, Dole, Bush (W.), Hillary, Kerry and Gore.
The younger the voters the more these types seem ridiculous. The entire five year run of the Cobert Report was a long Gen-X sendup of both the candidates and the reporters who cover them.
The GOP is looking vibrant. We have real debates, real personalities, real differences and we have choices. Eventually we will get to the voting and a lot of people will quickly fall away. A 1% finish is a 1% finish.
The party that looks pre-packaged, phony, unwilling to do anything but us professional liars and PR agents to "message" is the Jackass Party.
When you are trying to prop up Bernie Sanders as a helpful candidate to get some faux-debate going and look genuine, you are in a very very bad position.
I think our wealth of candidates is a strength, and will pay off down the road in many ways.

You quoted me but you omitted the part wherein I said, "Try attending a PAC meeting in your town and see how unwilling people are to give their hard-earned cash to the party." I was speaking from experience. I won't name the organization but I do attend regular meetings and I speak with its members on a regular basis. They don't like Trump, they believe he is making a joke of the party and they don't want him in the race. That's not because they support the status quo or Jeb Bush, or some of the crazier things others here have said. It's because they, like me, see Trump as a clown who is not to be taken seriously. You are free to disagree as is anyone here.
