Greta: Carly Fiorina is – so far – running a very smart race
GretaWire ^ | 6/13/15 | Greta Van Susteren

Posted on 06/14/2015 4:07:47 PM PDT by tellw

Why do I think she is running a smart race?

She is transparent — she opened up her tax returns to the media for inspection. So..not just talking about transparency, but doing it…and doing it first.

She is going hard for the women’s vote — preemptively trying to get that vote from Secretary Clinton (to the extent any women or anyone votes only on gender.) She has hit feminism hard and is giving women a choice.

She is competing strong with the men. She seems like ‘one of the boys’ rather than the token woman candidate. And you know what I mean – she can hold her own.

She is out there talking about her foreign policy experience being more vast than any other candidate. To back it up, she talks about Putin and others.

She leans heavily on her experience as CEO of HP, and has used her HP firing effectively in her campaign.

She is direct — when she gets asked a question, she answers (so far, you don’t get that blather of talking points some candidates will dish out.)

She has said that the press should ask Hillary why its okay to kill babies at 7 months. I think she’s pro-life. Until you have a source, that’s what I’m going with.

At the moment she is running rings around the majority of GOP candidates..

Well thought out and on the mark answers to questions...even tough ones...

Handles gotcha questions very well...

At some point the left will try and destroy her...

Having such a large field of candidates means the deranged vitriol left can only point their hate at some many people...

Once she moves to the top half of the candidate field, the hate will pour forth...

I'm sure Hillary campaign is scared to death she gets traction with women...

She did very well the other day in a q&a with someone on Fox.

A quote from Politico during her Boxer race in California: “Boxer charged that Fiorina’s stance on abortion is “’a direct threat’ to the rights of women in California and the nation,” the Los Angeles Times reports. Boxer said, “The most extreme anti-choice groups have found their candidate in Carly Fiorina.” Fiorina, who opposes abortion except in the case of rape, incest or when the pregnancy endangers the life of the mother, has said the allegation is a distortion of her position. She told reporters that her opponent was trying to shift voters’ attention from more pressing concerns. Fiorina has not explained what actions, if any, she would take in Congress to restrict abortion if elected” “

This is her life position when she ran for Senate:

Boxer charged that Fiorina's stance on abortion is "'a direct threat' to the rights of women in California and the nation," the Los Angeles Times reports. Boxer said, "The most extreme anti-choice groups have found their candidate in Carly Fiorina." Fiorina, who opposes abortion except in the case of rape, incest or when the pregnancy endangers the life of the mother, has said the allegation is a distortion of her position. She told reporters that her opponent was trying to shift voters' attention from more pressing concerns. Fiorina has not explained what actions, if any, she would take in Congress to restrict abortion if elected"

That contrasts with Ronald Reagan, in what might be his last political word on the subject:

I call America--a good nation, a moral people--to charitable but realistic consideration of the terrible cost of abortion on demand. To those who say this violates a woman's right to control of her own body: Can they deny that now medical evidence confirms the unborn child is a living human being entitled to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness? Let us unite as a nation and protect the unborn with legislation that would stop all Federal funding for abortion and with a human life amendment making, of course, an exception where the unborn child threatens the life of the mother. Our Judeo-Christian tradition recognizes the right of taking a life in self-defense. But with that one exception, let us look to those others in our land who cry out for children to adopt. I pledge to you tonight I will work to remove barriers to adoption and extend full sharing in family life to millions of Americans so that children who need homes can be welcomed to families who want them and love them. Source: Pres. Reagan's 1988 State of the Union message to Congress , Jan 25, 1988

So, Reagan at the end was pretty much 'life of the mother'. Fiorini says rape, incest, and life of the mother. I disagree with the rape/incest and especially the incest, because if it isn't rape it's consensual.

That said, I think she can beat Hillary. She's substantive, and Hillary isn't. And the entire USA isn't California where she lost.

Hey, P-M, you're a California, did you vote 3rd party or Fiorini when she ran against Boxer?

She is running a brilliant campaign. I won’t vote for her ever. I remember her tenure as CEO of HP. She moved the company to China. 11,000 workers lost their jobs and HP tanked. She’s a globalist.

So now we’re picking who is a heartbeat away from being President because of a “twofer”. Really? How about qualifications? Who cares what color, race, gender, orientation, etc.

No question she is doing a magnificent job positioning herself as a serious, clear-thinking Republican woman. I believe in redemption and she has learned from her previous run for the senate. I was very impressed at how she clearly laid the blame for California’s water crisis at the feet of the liberals who refused to build new reservoirs in the last 30+ years.

She makes very cogent, clear points on how the Obama model has destroyed our economy. She is destroying Hillary at every move. I agree it is very wise for the GOP to hear her out. She may well be a great choice for running mate. Or if things don’t pan out there, it would be wise to draft her again for the senate to take Boxer’s seat. Nothing is impossible if you have discipline and a real purpose behind your campaign.

>> Carly is staunchly pro-life... <<

As someone else noted, she takes the usual "rape, incest, and life of the mother" exceptions so the mainstream media won't attack her. Nevermind that the "incest" exception doesn't make any sense since the scenario they always give to justify it (evil father rapes underage daughter) would already be covered by the "rape" exception.

In any case, by California standards, she's pretty conservative for a Republican, because most of the California GOP statewide candidates are to her left.

In the rest of America... not so much.

>> ...and a more true conservative than Walker! <<

Ah yes, being a loyal McCain/Romney lieutenant during the presidential primaries and a mainstream media approved "conservative" from California is just soooo much more impressive than actually getting elected in a RAT state in your own right and the successfully fighting tooth and nail to enact conservative policies while the left is hell bent on "recalling" you.

Not just because of that but all things being equal if you want to win it helps to have a balanced ticket. I would never suggest anyone for a position for which he or she is not qualified.

The Carly seen today is not the Carly seen when running for senator. Her interview on FOX Friday evening was magnificent. There are many of us who are definitely scrutinizing closely as she runs this race. Once stated there was no chance...after watching her, listening to her - she is a definite possibility. Smart, straight shooter, a lady who is definitely hitting all her marks. Not to mention she looks like a power player in the clothes she wears. Not that that should make a difference (though it does to some) We need more like her.

Carly is PRO-LIFE and was endorsed by three organizations that I know of including National Right-to-Life and Susan B. Anthony list.

This was when she ran against Boxer in anti-life territory. (Unlike Romney who was pro-”choice” or pro-life, depending on the time of day.)

Carly also OPPOSED Fast-Track trade as did Ben Carson, Mike Huckabee, Bobby Jindal, Rand Paul, Rick Santorum & Donald Trump.

Thanks for the info. in your post, and I was disappointed to learn that Carly has exceptions.

I heard Jeb Bush has exception for rape, and I wonder who else has exceptions.

It’s still a baby, and since when do we punish a baby for the sins of his/her father?

Yep, as I already stated, she is pro-life. I don't lie about candidates that I dislike (unlike the people spreading the "Chris Christie is pro-abortion" lie.)

>> This was when she ran against Boxer in anti-life territory. (Unlike Romney who was pro-”choice” or pro-life, depending on the time of day.) <<

Fiorina's position on abortion is more consistent than Romney's. What I took issue with is the laughable argument that she's "more conservative" than Scott Walker. The best I can say about her is that she's more conservative than most California statewide GOP candidates. Given that the other Republicans there are from the Arnold wing of the party, that's not saying much.
