PFLUGERVILLE, Texas (AP/KXAN) Gov. Greg Abbott stopped at a gun range to sign into law bills letting Texans carry concealed handguns on college campuses and openly carry them virtually everywhere else.
Abbott was at Reds Indoor Range in Pflugerville Saturday morning. He says the laws mean Texans can be sure their Second Amendment rights will be stronger and more secure than ever before.
The Republican made expanding gun rights a top priority of his first legislative session as governor

So, does one have to have a CONCEALED Carry License to OPEN carry? Or just a CL...Carry License?
And Abbott just signed into existence a Texas border guard unit as part of the TX DPS.
Forget the drunk guy. Abbott for President.
You have to have a CHL and in TX that means taking a class and demonstating you can operate the weapon.
Rat heads exploding...
he he!
I live near Austin. I can't wait till the law goes into effect.
...and crime rates in Texas plummeting.
More guns mean less crime. It REALLY is just as simple as that. Knowing that everyone you meet has the possibility of being armed induces good behavior and respectful courtesy. Take each of the TCMS events over the year, plenty of guns and never a violent incident. And gun ranges and gun shows are among the very safest places in the world.
Ive seen nothing but the utmost respect between individuals at gun shows and gun ranges. Nothing akin to even a mild dose of road rage has ever been witnessed by myself in all the decades of being at such places. Heck, since youngsters are frequently at gun ranges, adults watch their language and theres hardly even any of the mildest form of cussin. :)
Doesn’t the “C” in CHL stand for “concealed”? Does that apply to open carry? Does the law state you much first obtain a CHL or CCL before you can open carry?
The open carry law means that a CHL holder has the option of openly carrying a holstered handgun. That sounds a bit odd, but there have been situations where an accidentally exposed concealed carry firearm has resulted in problems so this law is partially a remedy for that issue.
The open carry law goes into effect on January first, so up until then it’s still concealed carry.
I like it! It gives me more incentive to go get a CHL.
I hear Groupon's got some deals for those. Code LOCAL20 or SAVE20 to save 20% more ends today.
That’s excellent.
Mow, the more libtards want to think of moving to TX and see those evil, dastardly guns on people, they’ll throw a hissy fit and move back to their own blue states.
I quit Groupon when they pulled all chl and related classes after sand hook.
Spineless wimps.
I didn’t know that(I don’t do much business with them myself), but have you tried searching lately(even without an account)Groupon for CHL in TX?...because I’m seeing several offers...heh, even in Austin.
You should open carry in Whole Foods, hahahaha!
I have my CCL license here in PA but for OC no license is needed here. I OC all of the time when weather permits and you might be shocked at how many people never see the gun on your hip.
Bump for reference. Don’t think open carry is a very good idea.
I’ve never been to Whole Foods, aka Whole Paycheck, but it sounds like a good trip come Jan. 1st. I have a large and shiny handgun that is sure to produce some wet pants.
The problem of an exposed concealed weapon was resolved several years ago. This law has nothing to do with that.
