The Washington Times ^ | June 8, 2015 | Jay LeBlanc

Congressional Democrats are pushing legislation that would ban the production of guns made entirely of plastic, The Hill reported.

The Undetectable Firearms Modernization Act, proposed in response to recent airport security lapses, would require firearms to contain enough metal to be detected.

“If detectable weapons can make it through security checkpoints, how can we expect to catch wrongdoers carrying undetectable plastic firearms?” Rep. Steve Israel, New York Democrat...

These people are certifiable.

I support a ban on politicians made entirely of BS.

lol. i was on grand jury duty last week and brought lunch with a metal fork in a bag. didn’t know i wasn’t supposed to. went right through the detector with no problem. maybe they should work on that instead.

No gun can be made of 100% plastic. Even if it was possible the bullets are still made of metal.

all non metal guns are possible but at that point there effectiveness falls to such a level that they are curiosities not weapons.

For a wonderful look at some of the odd ways guns have been made try http://www.forgottenweapons.com/

Also, we do have technology more sophisticated than metal detectors for security. Xrays, for example. Or patting people down.

If guns can be made out of plastic and we have areas where we want to not have guns allowed, we can no longer rely on metal detectors to keep that area free of guns. Outlawing the plastic guns will mean that outlaws will still try to bring them through metal-detector areas, because the plastic guns can still exist, you just have to be craftier about obtaining one. Making something illegal because it could potentially be sneaked through security is ridiculous. Following that reasoning, anything that can’t go through a TSA checkpoint should be illegal.

Not to mention how many ceramic knives could get through a metal detector, and one could cause plenty of havoc with one of those sharp things, good lord.

This is 100% nothing more than an attempt to ban weapons.

No different than the hysterical hand-wringing over “Saturday Night Specials”, which were nothing but attempts to keep inexpensive firearms out of the hands of citizens.

One, cartridges are metal. Two, I have gone to the airport after simply handling a recently fired handgun and was stopped, and was singled out for an invasive exam. It has happened when I’ve carried a purse I’ve kept a loaded weapon in, too. I now have a travel purse that has never seen a weapon.

So, this is a gun-grabbing load of bull hockey.

Just a way for Liberals to ban plastic TOY guns.

If little Johnny so much as dreams about getting a toy gun for Christmas, it must mean that he will grow up to be a mass murderer, donchaknow

Plastic guns are not much better than a BB gun. Plastic does not handle fire very well.

All the more reason to not outlaw them, then.

Also, what if someone came up with a ceramic and carbon fiber solution that didn’t set off a metal detector? Outlaw that, or just no longer use metal detectors for gun-free areas?

Idiots. Any plastic gun that will work has enough metal in it already because it’s necessary.

No real gun confiscation or restrictions that mean anything are possible. All the fake phony staged crap hasn’t done anything except bring more people into the 2A club.

They are trying this halfass maneuver just to keep the donations coming in.
