Climate change, a factor in Texas floods, largely ignored
Texas Tribune ^ | May 28, 2015 | Neena Satija

Climate change is taking a toll on Texas, and the devastating floods that have killed at least 15 people and left 12 others missing across the state are some of the best evidence yet of that phenomenon, state climatologist John Nielsen-Gammon said in an interview Wednesday.

“We have observed an increase of heavy rain events, at least in the South-Central United States, including Texas,” said Nielsen-Gammon, who was appointed by former Gov. George W. Bush in 2000. “And it’s consistent with what we would expect from climate change.”

But the state’s Republican leaders are deeply skeptical of the scientific consensus that human activity is changing the climate, with top environmental regulators in Texas questioning whether the planet is warming at all. And attempts by Democratic lawmakers during the 2015 legislative session to discuss the issue have come up short.

When there was a drought there it was due to climate change.

This laugh out loud laughable, except the true believers are fanatical and have too much real power.

It’s a religious, almost superstitious, mindset.

I don’t think true irrationality has gained as much traction in this country’s politics ever before.

Because it’s never flooded in Texas before.

LOL, I guess our climatologist never heard of the Austin flood of 1981. We were camping on the shore of Lake Travis that weekend... it got pretty scary.

When I was a kid/teen in Sherman, TX we had 100 year floods 3 times in 5 years. It wasn’t called climate change or global warming back then … just weather.

They are right.

If the climate hadn't changed since the ice age, it might have been snow rather than rain.

Do these people have any idea how utterly stupid they sound?

You are just too stupid to appreciate the nuances of their sound science.

They are so brilliant that their own $h*+ doesn't even stink either. ;->

Okay, when there was a drought, it was ‘climate change/glowbull warming’.

Now, that drought is over and there is flooding, it’s still ‘climate change/glowbull warming’.............

Climate Change is NORMAL, not extraordinary. Therefore the argument that human activity causes climate change means human activity causes normal climate conditions

How high’s the water, mama?
Two feet high and risin’
How high’s the water, papa?
Two feet high and risin’

We can make it to the road in a homemade boat
That’s the only thing we got left that’ll float
It’s already over all the wheat and the oats,
Two feet high and risin’

How high’s the water, mama?
Three feet high and risin’
How high’s the water, papa?
Three feet high and risin’

Well, the hives are gone,
I’ve lost my bees
The chickens are sleepin’
In the willow trees
Cow’s in water up past her knees,
Three feet high and risin’

How high’s the water, mama?
Four feet high and risin’
How high’s the water, papa?
Four feet high and risin’

Hey, come look through the window pane,
The bus is comin’, gonna take us to the train
Looks like we’ll be blessed with a little more rain,
4 feet high and risin’

Building on stilts only helps for insurance purposes and for low slow rises. Stilts are tiddlywinks and match sticks during swift floods.

The gov keeps changing where those 100 year flood lines will be. All my life we were in the clear but not anymore. Of course, it’s just a coincidence that those lines changed right about the time they opted for computer monitoring 90 miles away as opposed to on the spot live human being monitors. After our last big flood and the waters had receded, some idiot decided to open the dam gates. I was on the phone telling them they were flooding houses by opening gates when they didn’t need to as the water level behind the dam was fine. I was told there was no flooding. Told them I was standing on my porch watching it. They said I was lying because that’s not what their computer said. Pin head geeks don’t understand that a computer monitor on a large wide lake isn’t going to show what’s happening when that water is being dumped into a narrow river that doesn’t have one of their fancy dancy useless monitors.

Climate change was supposed to result in permanent drought in Texas.

They sure switched stories fast.

I think excess immigration caused the floods. After all, the ground was stomped down by all those illegals, so it became more prone to flooding.

Or, it could have been caused by all the illegals who have come to California who wish their brothers and sisters in Texas could join them. They put their minds into causing some rain for Cali, but it was misdirected to Texas when they got the two confused. And so there you go.

Or, it could be all the Californians who wish they they were in Texas and not paying 10+% state income tax. They, too, wanted rain, but got “rain” and “tax” confused.

And by the way, you’re an evil moron if you doubt me.
