Ireland became Saturday the first country in the world to legalize same-sex marriages by popular vote. Within the U.S., Maine, Maryland and Washington in 2012 were the first states to legalize such unions through popular votes. Meanwhile, 37 states and the District of Columbia recognize same-sex marriages, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.
A measure to legalize such unions via popular votes could be added to the ballots in the 13 other states during the 2016 general elections, when it conceivably could have the support of at least one presidential candidate, as Irelands action motivated one White House contender to express her approval on the microblogging site Twitter:

Clinton has flip-flopped with respect to same-sex marriages over the years. During her 2008 presidential race, she opposed same-sex marriages and supported same-sex civil unions. This time around, the former U.S. secretary of state has changed her position and would back a constitutional amendment to that effect, CNN reported. Hillary Clinton supports marriage equality and hopes the Supreme Court will come down on the side of same-sex couples being guaranteed that constitutional right, Clinton representative Adrienne Elrod said in a statement.
Clintons opponent in the run for the Democratic Partys presidential nomination, U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, who openly supports lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights in general and same-sex marriage in particular, has yet to tweet about the Irish law passing on his personal Twitter or campaign account. But he did send another message consistent with his social liberal agenda Saturday, this one centered on environmental conservation....

The bull dyke has spoken - may she rot ...
pardon me if I paraphrase myself: the snakes have returned.
It is amazing that a country like Ireland that is about as Catholic as possible would pass this.
Now the important question is how is this Bill written?
Is it Civil Marriages only? The Catholic Church has not changed and their Priests will not be marrying gays in the church.
Also I just saw an article lamenting the fact more Straight Men are opting out of marriage but yet we now have more Gays that want marriage.
Government should not be involved in Marriage at all.
Lesser evil: Export edition.

“The Catholic Church has not changed and their Priests will not be marrying gays in the church.”
You might want to check to see what Pope Francis now has to say about this perversion, etc.... seems he is ‘evolving’.
“Government should not be involved in Marriage at all.”
I see people say that and I wonder how on earth people can come to that conclusion. If nothing else government might as well be involved with marriage on the front end because there’s no way to keep government out of the back end of it: i.e. division of assets in divorce, protection orders, court mandated child custody, etc.
Is there even one modernized nation on earth that isn’t “involved in Marriage”? Seriously, even one? The true Conservative believes government has a role to play in recognizing the ancient tradition of marriage. Only the Libertarian would think otherwise, and he would be very wrong in this case.
In the US they are running(and ruining)the country.
There are actually two states getting out of the marriage involvement, I think Alabama is one of them.
...and now we know why the left hated Robert Bork.
Wow, intersting. Can you post that article, please?
A-holes. Once you redefine marriage as other than a union between ONE man and ONE woman, you are opening up the relationship to plural marriages. The sodomite gangsters in the long run are slitting their own throats - if you get my drift.
This is a moral abortion. It indicates the degree to which western civilization has drifled from its moral anchor.
And I agree!
US Government Out of Marriage!
(should be a bumper sticker!)
“There are actually two states getting out of the marriage involvement, I think Alabama is one of them.”
Logically impossible. If Alabama has inheritance taxes or protections, recognizes joint property, has state granted divorces, domestic abuse laws, or family courts, it will still have “marriage involvement”. It is IMPOSSIBLE for society to function normally without some governing power somehow involved in marriage.
Speaking of Bork, remember how vile the left was when Bork and Thomas were nominated? When have we ever done something similar?
I don’t know if it’s IMPOSSIBLE and I don’t think the government being out of marriage is necessary a “libertarian” position.
Iff the various state governments (as well as the federal government) failed miserably at defining marriage in the first place, after multiple changes, then they should fail at regulating it. I say the time clock has run out. What’s the point at this stage int he game?
There are laws that protect people in so-called “civil unions” or “domestic partnerships”, Not sure why those laws cannot simply be reinforced and updated for people in heterosexual marriages. The government can just view it as simply as a “civil union”, while the couple’s church, synagogue, community, family or whatever, define it as a “marriage”. Wouldn’t this also satisfy the gays as well (I realize that might be asking too much)? They’re all bent out of shape over things like benefits and hospital visitation rights.. the religious aspect to “marriage” and how it relates to children is completely y overlooked by these people. Wouldn’t an update on the “civil union” as recognized by the States help everyone? And then the term “marriage” could remain sacrosanct (of course the gays would still refer to it as “marriage”, but what can one do...? You can’t regulate what other people call it).
Makes no sense why this is even an issue.. when was the first American “civil union”? It would be an interesting fact to look up.
Meant to write “multiple chances”. I type too fast -——— - - - -
