About 40 people were killed in large-scale firefight Friday between law enforcement and criminal suspects in western Mexico, a Mexican official said.
Almost all the dead were suspected criminals, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the press.
The gunbattle happened in an area between Michoacan and Jalisco states that is known as a stronghold of the Jalisco New Generation drug cartel, which has mounted several large-scale attacks on federal and state forces in recent weeks. A federal police official said the countrys top security officials were en route to assess what happened.

Will we get handwringing on the lack of strict gun laws in Mexico like we just did on the biker gang incident?
Waco PD not on scene.
“About” 40?
Can’t they find anyone who can count that high?
Coming to America!
Reportedly the number was higher from a couple of days of uh, actions. A federale chopper shot down!? Probably with one of the .50 cals that shoot bullets as big as ketchup bottles or maybe a manpad. All in a place where virtually no one is allowed to have firearms. You know, a gun free zone. Well, unless the U.S. govt supplies them with said weapons.

Good thing it’s impossible to get a gun in Mexico due to very strict gun laws.
Not when the US ATF is running interference for you.
Hmmm. Must have gotten these items before the lyin’ king memo’d the militarization of LEO out of the picture. :>}
So, it sounds like the government decided to back the Zetas against the Sinaloa-backed JNG cartel.
It is hard trying to follow all the creation and dissolving of the feudalistic cartels in Mexico.
Hard to follow ,,
San Diego gets political ads and it’s seems Mexico has quite a problem with police and civilian disappearances,to the sum of 22000.
