“The citizen-soldiers who fought for the Confederacy personified the best qualities of America. The preservation of liberty and freedom was the motivating factor in the South’s decision to fight the Second American Revolution. The tenacity with which Confederate soldiers fought underscored their belief in the rights guaranteed by the Constitution. These attributes are the underpinning of our democratic society and represent the foundation on which this nation was built.

Today, the Sons of Confederate Veterans is preserving the history and legacy of these heroes so that future generations can understand the motives that animated the Southern Cause.”

You’re kidding right? They fought so they could own human beings like cattle. Heroes? K.

My Confederate ancestor couldn’t give a crap about slavery. He fought to defend his family and neighbors from the Northern aggressors. Unfortunately, he wasn’t successful.

Very few confederate soldiers owned slaves. Of course, facts don’t get in the way of your opinions.

It was not the “second” revolution either. The first revolution was to over throw a tyrannical government. The Civil War was to resign from a tyrannical government and go their separate ways. This country would be much better off today had the confederacy been allowed to leave the union. From the loss of that war state’s rights have been slowly taken away.

I’ll take a guess here: you went to public school and you took that line from your lib teacher and didn’t have the braincell to analyze the root cause of the CW.

You have no idea what you are talking about. The War of Northern Aggression was started because the South was tired of supporting the Federal Government who was getting 90 per cent of it’s budget from federal excise taxes on southern exports. Slavery was only brought up after the conscription riots in the north so to give them the moral high ground. Why did it take so long to announce the emancipation proclamation. And why were only the slaves in the south freed?

Can you say if you view George Washington as a hero?

I had ancestors who fought in that war. None owned a slave. They were too busy making a living for their families. Sometimes that included several generations. The wife of a cousin and I have done loads of research which back up that statement. My great grandfather could not fight due to a physical disability so he made shoes for the soldiers from his area of MS. I was reading a story a few weeks ago. A very small percentage owned slaves and that included blacks. Do some research.

To the best of my knowledge none of the 25 or so CSA soldiers that are my ancestors owned slaves, to include the one who was a commission merchant in Cincinnati, Ohio and who left his business and home to travel to New Orleans and serve in the Confederate Army. What they were interested in was in expelling yankees such as you from their homeland.

If you would read some history you would learn that there were thousands of blacks who owned slaves in this country. There were tens of thousands of whites who owned no slaves.

The north invaded the south because of power. They didn’t do it over slavery. They owned slaves in the north.

If you believe that the CW was fought over slavery, that just proves that you were indoctrinated in the government controlled public school system and it worked.

My ancestors fought in the Union Army of the Potomac. They had great respect for their Confederate foe and rightfully so. This Monday morning quarterback p.c. nonsense must stop. The rank and file Confederate soldier certainly didn’t sacrifice life and limb so some rich guys could keep slavery. To suggest otherwise is absurd.
And you can bet the average Ubion grunt wasn’t risking same to abolish slavery.
