NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Starting Thursday, the armed security guard at Panera Bread Co. across from Vanderbilt University will no longer be carrying a firearm.

According to the manager at the 21st Avenue location, the decision comes after multiple patrons complained to corporate that the armed security agent was violating the company’s own gun policy and making them uncomfortable.

One of those who complained was Lillian Hallstrand, a long-time customer of the Panera on 21st.

The Director of Stewardship and Vocational Planning at Vanderbilt’s divinity school told news 2 coming to the restaurant in recent months has been unsettling since the guards began to carry firearms.

“It was definitely alarming,” Hallstrand explained. “Typically when I see people around with guns, I assume there is some sort of law enforcement happenings taking place. I was reluctant to go in till I knew that there was nothing going on.”

Just cancel the security all together, with big posters proclaiming the will of people like the woman in this article (by name, of course, and with pictures if possible).

I’ve been in a lot of Paneras but I’ve never been in one that felt it needed security guards, armed or otherwise. Must be something about the Nashville neighborhood.

I attended college in Nashville. Vanderbilt is a liberal blight on what was otherwise a decent city. I’m guessing some of the whining hypocritical hoplophobes are connected with Vandy.

ATTENTION CRIMINALS!!!!

Not only is this Panera Bread now guarded by an unarmed security officer, but there is a woman who is totally unarmed who eats there as well.

She is available for theft, rape and murder without fear of resistance.

“Must be something about the Nashville neighborhood.”

Is there a MLK Blvd. nearby?

Actually, it is a quite safe area of town. No bad neighborhoods for many blocks. I’m not sure why they have guards there at all.

“Director of Greek Life?!?!?”

*****

This position is now for feminazis who tell fraternities that “yes” means “no,” etc. The Greek system has deteriorated across the country.

When I was in college, my fraternity was about 90% Republican/Libertarian. Today, the fraternity spends its time wearing pink for breast cancer “awareness” and promoting homosexual “rights” on campus. Needless to say, not a dime of my money (or my children) go there.

Remember, this is across the street from the very liberal Vanderbilt University. The only people who go there are students and professors and staff.

BTW, VU generates much of its own electricity with a coal-fired boiler and most of the students and staff don’t even know.

Like I have said, this location is far from the high crime areas of Nashville. I’m not sure why they have guards at all.

Vanderbilt is #9 on the list of the most dangerous colleges in America.

See the link on my #36. The college may be far from the highest crime areas, but I'm guessing that criminals from those areas may consider the Vanderbilt area a good hunting ground, due to the high proportion of clueless young students attending.

let’s have a pool: I say there’s a robbery within 30 days.

You are likely to be right - some criminals are bound to see the easy target. I won't celebrate when it happens, but I won't feel too bad either. Someone is getting robbed, and it might as well be someone with anti-American values.
