Ted Cruz: Gay Marriage Is The Greatest Threat To Religious Freedom In American History
Right Wing Watch ^ | 5/14/2015 | Brian Tashman

Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, the Republican presidential candidate who believes that the gay “jihad” may soon lead to the imprisonment of pastors and the end of free speech, told a right-wing radio host yesterday that the legalization of same-sex marriage represents the greatest threat to religious liberty in the history of the United States.

“We are seeing today profound threats to religious liberty in America, I think the greatest threats we’ve ever seen,” Cruz told conservative author and talk radio host Eric Metaxas.

Cruz said that the fights over “religious freedom” laws in Indiana and Arkansas were “heartbreaking” examples of how the Democratic Party has “gotten so extreme and so radical in its devotion to mandatory gay marriage that they’ve decided there’s no room for the religious liberty protected under the First Amendment.”

He added that while “Democrats joined with big business in vilifying an effort to protect our religious liberty,” too many Republican leaders and presidential candidates “ran and hid in the hills.”

“We’re a nation that was founded by men and women who were fleeing religious oppression and coming to seek out a land where everyone of us could worship God Almighty with all of our hearts, minds and souls, and that is under profound jeopardy today,” Cruz said.

Cruz later claimed that Solicitor General Donald Verrilli had said during last month’s Supreme Court marriage equality arguments that if marriage equality is legalized nationwide, the IRS will start denying tax-exempt status to churches. (In the exchange Cruz referred to, Verrilli had said nothing of the sort.)

“The next step on this,” he said, “is your church being told it now pays income taxes on the tithes that are given each week, that it is now singled out and discriminated against, that universities like Notre Dame or Georgetown and Brigham Young or any university that is founded as a Christian university, if it continues to follow biblical teachings on marriage, the federal government is asserting the power to discriminate and persecute them.” This led Metaxas to warn of “parallels” to what occured in Nazi Germany.

Metaxas seemed to be pleased with Cruz’s responses, especially compared to his GOP presidential rival Jeb Bush, whom Metaxas criticized for failing to forcefully denounce marriage equality and hiring “top people in his campaign who are very aggressively pro-same-sex-marriage.”

What I don't understand is how Islam works into the mix

People want certainty and something to believe in. In its own sick way, radical Islam is filling the void left because of compromised Christianity. For a generation, globally, raised on a culture that promotes violence and role models mostly from US culture that are degenerates, the violence of ISIS is just an extension of that. Today's younger generations haven't developed what used to be adult skills to separate fantasy from reality.

Nobody can tell me Ted Cruz is not head and shoulders above the rest. And I know there are some good ones out there.

All of what they 'say' they wanted...inheritance, visitation, etc...can be done by contract. That was just the nose of the camel.

It's financial in nature (insurance, retirement, etc) and authoritarian. You won't just tolerate it, YOU WILL LIKE IT!!!

Cruz’s ability to fully understand this, along with his complete willingness to loudly and vocally express it, is one of the reasons Cruz is really the only candidate I’m remotely interested in supporting.

What fights?

I didn't see any fighting.

I saw a rout, total surrender,.

All except for Muslims. They get to do what they want. I mean whens the last time a gay couple went into a Muslim store and demanding they serve a gay wedding?

Bingo! Get rid of Christianity then you can do anything you want. What I don’t understand is how Islam works into the mix. I can only guess they’ll be exempt.

To the Left, they side with Islam since the enemy of my enemy is my friend. And Islam is happily playing along.

Then, when the Christanity that protected them from Islam is removed, then the Left will be the target of Islam. And their PC nature to fear offending will cause them to fall into place.

It will only be when women and gays feel the full assault of Sharia that they will realize. But by then, it will be too late.

“Broad readings for me, petty quibbles for thee.”

I’d be curious, however, to see exactly what it was that Cruz said. I really doubt he’d get it even this wrong, though that’s always possible, he is not perfect.

Ted Cruz said what Scott Walker, Jeb Bush and other candidates won’t say about gay marriage.

I have always contended gay marriage is not about gay marriage, I don’t care who gets married to be honest.

But I care about the freedom of speech and religion enshrined in our First Amendment.

They are clearly under attack here as those supporting gay marriage hate religious institutions and people who won’t conform to their views on sexuality and marriage.

The LGBT activists supported by political and business elites will stop at nothing to crush their opponents in the style of brownshirted or redshirted Fascists or Communists of the past.

The Republicans caved three times as I see it.

Last year then Republican Governor Jan Brewer vetoed a religious freedom bill in Arizona passed by her legislature apparently under corporate pressure including the NFL some said.

What figured prominently were calls by the two US Senators including McCain and a tweet from Mitt Romney calling on her to veto the bill.

Then this year’s caves under pressure from the business world (including some corporate giants) from Republican governors Mike Pence in Indiana and Asa Hutchinson from Arkansas on religious freedom bills.

I’m for Ted Cruz because his rhetoric on this is the clearest by far, but I could polish it up for him even more.

This is a challenging mission field, but a mission field it must be viewed as.

I get tired of arguing with the “whack um dead” crowd. Not only is the theology wrong for that in these circumstances, it stultifies a large part of Christ’s outreach. Christ did not come to head a Self Righteous Club. Christ came to share a very special grace that conquers sin by winning the sinner away from Satan.

Even if a political backstop can be successfully erected, that isn’t going to be enough, nor will it escape being under incessant attack.

A spiritual backstop is necessary.

Close, but not pinpoint accurate.
It’s not a threat to “religious freedom”,
it’s a threat to Christians.

And, that’s actually the primary purpose of it.
The left DOESN’T REALLY CARE ABOUT GAY “MARRIAGE”,
they care about criminalizing Christianity,

and this topic is just the one they’ve found to do it.
If they had to, they’d promote child sacrifice and criminalize opposition,
if it would serve to criminalize Christianity.

I think the feminists and homos KNOW that Islam would destroy the “front” agenda that they say they adhere to.

But, they hate Christians more than they love feminism and homosexuality.

You can see the collision coming a mile away.

Both the new challenges of the day are spiritually driven. It’s easier to see how Islam and liberals would end up at odds, harder to see how the “gay [whatever] lobby” and liberals would. But the devil hates liberals too, wants them destroyed as well because they are people, and never fear, that malevolent super-angel has an according plan of some sort in mind too.

I daresay Jews are also going to see that evil wrath too.
