A Duke University professor has responded to criticism about online comments he made regarding African Americans.

The Charlotte Observer reports (http://bit.ly/1A6Qgtm ) political science professor Jerry Hough made comments on The New York Times website, where he compared "the blacks" and "the Asians", writing that Asians "didn't feel sorry for themselves, but worked doubly hard."

Hough received criticism for his comments on Twitter and other social media sites. In an email on Friday, Hough said that his comments were misunderstood.

I worked with a guy from Germany, he always said that in the old country, anything TRUE, was OK to say.

Works for me.

IIRC, Larry Summers got himself drummed out as President of Harvard because he publicly demonstrated some intellectual curiosity about the possibility that there are differences between men and women.

Just like during China's "Cultural Revolution", anyone who spoke anything deviating from the party line had to publicly confess and recant.
Especially harsh when true.

My brother is married to a great Filipina lady and my in law family is great. Go to RP twice a year and on the way visit HK where my sister works. Head to your local library. Who is inside? Asians. Who’s outside hussling? Homeys. Never heard of Asians burning and looting American cities, blaming whitey for everyone of their problems.

Hough’s full comments in the New York Times are below:
This editorial is what is wrong. The Democrats are an alliance of Westchester and Harlem, of Montgomery County and intercity Baltimore. Westchester and Montgomery get a Citigroup asset stimulus policy that triples the market. The blacks get a decline in wages after inflation.

But the blacks get symbolic recognition in an utterly incompetent mayor who handled this so badly from beginning to end that her resignation would be demanded if she were white. The blacks get awful editorials like this that tell them to feel sorry for themselves.

In 1965 the Asians were discriminated against as least as badly as blacks. That was reflected in the word “colored.” The racism against what even Eleanor Roosevelt called the yellow races was at least as bad.

So where are the editorials that say racism doomed the Asian-Americans. They didn’t feel sorry for themselves, but worked doubly hard.

I am a professor at Duke University. Every Asian student has a very simple old American first name that symbolizes their desire for integration. Virtually every black has a strange new name that symbolizes their lack of desire for integration. The amount of Asian-white dating is enormous and so surely will be the intermarriage. Black-white dating is almost non-existent because of the ostracism by blacks of anyone who dates a white.

It was appropriate that a Chinese design won the competition for the Martin Luther King state. King helped them overcome. The blacks followed Malcolm X.

Shocking. Someone in academia who doesn’t coddle Black students and tells it like it is. Yep, he’s gonna get fired or reprimanded severely for sure. It was brave for him to say it but his academic career is finished.

Black-white dating is acceptable if the girl is attractive and white. I have seen not to many of the other permutations that are celebrated.

"Jerry Fincher Hough (born 1935) is the James B. Duke Professor of Political Science at Duke University. Hough has taught at Duke since 1973; he previously taught at the University of Toronto and at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and he has served as a senior fellow at The Brookings Institution. Hough received his A.B., A.M. and PhD from Harvard University."

1.He's 80!

2. By the quality of his writing, I wondered if he was a physical science or engineering professor. I didn't think he could be a liberal arts professor.

3. Putting #1 and #2 together, I wonder if the professor isn't showing early signs of dementia. ("Black-white dating is almost non existent"? Among liberal arts students at a major university? Seriously? It demonstrates rebelliousness and independence to mom and dad as much as a tattoo and has the advantage that it doesn't require plastic surgery at a later date.)

He's speaking truth to liberal 'group think'... that's takes courage.

Democrats are delusional if they think Asians can be scammed into supporting criminals... or burning down their own neighborhoods or being manipulated into a rage vote against traditional American values.

Ain't gonna happen.

Asians will never accused their children of 'acting white' when they strive to make good grades.

There will never be an Asian community where 20% of adults are scamming the system for disability... fathers won't be standing on the street making trouble while their kids are being tossed to the wind either.

Liberal elites have to find a different group to prop them up - and I'm not talking about Hispanics.... Hispanics are hard working family people too.

The professor pointed out some blindingly obvious truths.

1) Blacks are easily the most racist group in the US. And not just against other races, but against other variations of black.

2) Blacks are strongly self-segregating, and reject integration.

3) In 1965, Orientals in the US were disparaged, if not as much as blacks. But they made a conscientious effort to integrate and succeed, so the only remaining bigotry against Orientals is from liberals and leftists, who despise them for their hard work and success.

Big Brother is upon us. And the Leftists (such as Kirsten Powers) must be shocked it is their side who is resurrecting 1984. Who among us has not self-censored because we know we are being monitored? It will be up to future generations to unleash again the Freedoms we once had. My generation is destroying the once greatest nation on Earth. More’s the pity.

By the sound of it, he doesn’t watch much TV nowadays where every sitcom, drama or other venue has to have blacks, pretty white/Hispanic/Asian/girls, mixed couples, homosexuals, and buffoonish white males [in that order].

Liberals and media perpetuate that mix above anything else. Not seeing this daily, of course his perception could be wrong. It does not mean he is ‘demented’. Movies, TV, magazines and newspapers doesn’t mean ubiquity. They mean what they want to portray.

In my little North Georgia city, there are examples of it - but they are sparse and certainly not representative of what one would see in the daily blasts of normalcy perpetuated by media and entertainment.

That said, I certainly understand that all that does exist in places in this country. I’d expect it in urban areas and in blue highly populated states.

If people speaking the truth would stand by their statements instead of immediatly apologizing and begging forgiveness for being misunderstood, things might begin to change for the better.

“The blacks followed Malcolm X. “

I saw the original post in the NYT, disagreed with this.

Malcom Ten died 3 years before MLK; the blacks followed Je$$e Jack$on.

Have always felt that James Earl Ray shot the wrong guy.
