Eighteen months away from the 2016 presidential election, two Democrats and six Republicans have formally thrown their hat into the ring. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas was the first Republican to announce his candidacy. Cruz is the son of Cuban immigrants who before his congressional career was the longest-serving Solicitor General in Texas history.
This week, Cruz began his ground game in Michigan by announcing his new state chairman. Saul Anuzis served as chairman of the Michigan Republican Party from 2005 to 2009. Later, he was a candidate for the chairmanship of the Republican National Committee.
Now, as part of Team Cruz, Anuzis faces the challenge of promoting a Republican contender in a state that has not voted for a GOP presidential candidate in nearly three decades.
Current State talks with Saul Anuzis about the Cruz campaign and the other presidential contenders.

Anuzis is an interesting person. He should be a real asset to Senator Cruz in his Presidential campaign. TWB

You know, for someone who is running a campaign as an outsider, Cruz is picking up a lot of support from (mostly former) insiders.
Yet I’m constantly told his appeal is too limited to the “fringe right”.
Hm.
Odd.

Actually only his father is a Cuban immigrant.

So, define "a lot"?

Funny how that 'fringe right' noise comes from the same small group of posters here on FR.

Is that one, two, or more people out of the hundred or more people (that we know of) he has surrounded himself with?
And I am sure you can post their names and why they are considered "insiders", right?

I don’t like or trust Anuzis but he is a big “get” for Cruz. It sounds like Cruz actually intends to compete in Michigan.

So Cruz picks someone he thinks is experienced in campaigns, someone who never held an elected political office, someone who is familiar with a state that has not went republican in 30 years, and you think he should pick an outsider.
You don’t have an agenda at all do you.

He didn't get the slot, but he was in the running. What is the Michigan state GOP leadership like?
I wouldn't give a dime for the Republican leaders in California. Are the Republican leaders in Michigan the same type of no account Republican leaders?

I know there was a pretty good size list of endorsers from NH alone. Not always big guys, but a bunch of little guys.
It would take some time to find that list again, but it was here on FR.

Anuzis is a RINO no mistake about it but he’s the biggest power broker in the state.
Sounds like he and Cruz have been friends for at least a few years.
I heard him say yesterday that the politics of Michigan have changed to a more conservative bent and the GOP must change with it.

Kevkrom, is a big Scott Walker booster. Kevkrom has never posted anything negative about the Romney staff/supporters that Walker has hired or gathered around him.
Strange....

Does his intended change involve going Left or a correction back to our core beliefs? I’d bet left...
You need power brokers in the states, so I don’t want to be too critical of this, but I don’t like someone going hand in hand with known RINO kings.

Saul's an interesting cat. I wouldn't call him a RINO. He was pushing for the more conservative senate candidate in 2012 (Durant) over Hoekstra. He's more of a Newt guy or Jack Kemp guy than anything else, although he's tight with the Romney campaign folks as well.
I didn't like his extra delegate at all, nor national popular vote, but he likes to win first and foremost and will do what needs to be done. He also hates the Yobs and Ron Paul. Interestingly, Yobs are backing Rand Paul.

I think it’s interesting that Saul Anuzis got to know Ted and Heidi well during some dinners together and was very impressed the more he learned about Cruz’s personality, conservative principles and vision of governance. That seems to be a common theme among people that have an opportunity to pierce the fog of misconceptions created by big media and Washington DC elites. The more they see the real Ted Cruz, the more they like and admire about him.
To: SoConPubbie; kevkrom
I to post on some Walker threads, and I always make it clear I have an agenda, Cruz is a far supieror candidate to not only Walker but all other candidates, and I explain why Cruz is superior, kevkrom might want to try doing the same; I know it would not be easy promoting an inferior candidate but be honest about it instead of innuendo feigning insult.
I do not deny Walker is a decent fellow but for POTUS in these times we need a man of character, confidence, integrity, not someone who goes with political winds, someone who is not sure what he believes as Walker has demonstrated.
Kevkrom it is time to change trains and get on the one that is on the right track, get with the one whose primary goal and trustworthy promise is the restoration of our Free Republic. CRUZ 2016!
