Conservatives plot to hijack 2016 GOP nomination at secret meeting

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — As the Republican National Committee convenes its spring meeting in this resort city, conservative activists fearful of getting stuck with another moderate candidate in 2016 are gathering 2,300 miles away to plot strategies to engineer the presidential nomination to their liking.

Representatives of some 40 conservative groups plan to meet Wednesday at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in the Washington suburb of McLean, Virginia, where they will air their fears of having the nomination process hijacked by establishment Republicans and wrestle over different strategies to turn the primaries and caucuses to their advantage.

Their goal is to avoid ending up with another moderate, establishment candidate like they landed in 2008 with John McCain and in 2012 with Mitt Romney. Their hope is to find a way to pick a nominee who, if elected, would actually stay the course the way they think Ronald Reagan did 35 years ago.

My thoughts is that this is bogus and that this so called conservatives are probably more libertarians or the likes of Rove and his ilk.

Yeah, and Jeb Bush doesn’t have any secret meetings. He just wants to go to Washington to establish a boys’ camp or sumtin’.

Yep. The only secret plan out there is to elect a few more Mitch McConnell Republicans so that he and Obama can "get (even more damaging) things done!"

You know, if I was Karl Rove I’d spend $10,000 setting up a meeting like this and then leak it to the WashTimes, just to enrage the opposition.

Oops, did I post that on FR?

Just to help out the folks who didn't read the article. There's a meeting of the GOP bigwigs happening in scottdale, AZ. They generally select who they are going to get behind, and it *is* Karl Rove and Phylis Shfly etc.. And this process "whittles down" the number of people running before we've had a single debate for the primary. I mean, did anyone else think McCain or Romney came out of those primary debates looking golden? The fact was that they'd already been chosen as the nominee by the establishment. And then they can go around handing out favors, like, "Get your supporters behind me, and I'll make you VP."

Okay. Simultaneously, the little guys are brainstorming strategies to prevent the GOP from choosing that losing nominee for us, before we even get to the primary. And one "intriguing" idea is to let all the runners stay in until the primary. WHOA. that's an idea that blows *everyone's* mind.

So that's what this article is about.

Rope, rifle, and rail needed in Scotsdale?

How about just some good old tar and feathers.

Not exactly “plotting”.

They threw out a bad old idea and are considering a new bad idea.

Just thin the herd and back the most conservative.

(Ted Cruz)

Conservative secret meeting is BAD.

Obama secret meeting with Iranians is GOOD.

Next time, maybe we should have it in a garage or a basement, and not at a major hotel with a sign saying "Welcome Secret Meeting Attendees!"
