So Cruz voted yes on cloture, and against the legislation?

The legislation has not come up for a vote because the supporters could not achieve cloture.

McConnell voted no on cloture and yes on the legislation?

Initially, McConnell voted yes on cloture, but after seeing that there were not enough votes for cloture, he changed his vote to no so he could bring the bill up again for a cloture vote. McConnell is an ardent supporter of the bill.

Agree. They are all unacceptable. My preferred candidate would be Jeff Sessions. Failing that, I guess I am stuck with Walker if he announces that he is running.

You misstate Cruz’s position vastly. He is for free trade. So was Milton Freidman. Your desire to paint Cruz as part of the GOPe is insane

“A cloture vote of yes is a yes vote for the bill” Not necessarily. I have seen where folks vote for cloture and turn around and vote no on the bill.

So glad you are willing to commit political suicide.” I will not vote for him ever”

Milton Friedman wasn't for mass immigration when you have the welfare state. Cruz wants to increase the guest worker programs fivefold. He favors legalizing the status of the lawbreakers, i.e., illegal aliens.

The bill in question is not about free trade. It is about increasing the power of the Presidency. And these trade deals will allow massive increases in bringing foreign workers to the US. It is very similar to what was proposed in the Gang of 8 bill.

Jeff Sessions gets it. Sessions, who is only one of two Senate Republicans to admit they have actually read the bill (Sen. Mike Lee being the other), has been a vocal critic of the potential deal, saying it will only exacerbate the current $51 billion trade deficit. The Alabama Republican added that a deal could enable “immigration increases.”

“Stating that ‘TPP contains no change to immigration law’ is a semantic rather than a factual argument,” Sessions wrote, debunking claims from Ryan and House Judiciary Committee chairman Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA)—two of the biggest proponents of the trade deal—made last week. “Language already present in both TPA and TPP provide the basis for admitting more foreign workers, and for longer periods of time, and language could later be added to TPP or any future trade deal to further increase such admissions.”

“It turns out that only a few people have really read any parts of this Trans-Pacific Partnership. This wide-ranging, multi-lateral deal that has been negotiated behind closed doors and under lock and key. Breitbart is reporting that two, including yourself, admit they’ve even read this trade agreement. That’s like a dereliction of duty, in my mind senator,” Ingraham said.

Yes, they do, because their vote is not needed to pass the bill. They will cut deals with the other party. I won’t vote for him because he is pro-immigration and not really eligible to run, according to the American history I was taught in high school, before all this ever came up.

Well, while we disagree on Ted Cruz , well yes, Jeff Sessions would be great.
Walker would be my 2nd choice so far.

Cruz Tries to Claim the Middle Ground on Immigration

– U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) today presented an amendment to the Gang of Eight immigration bill that would improve our nation’s legal immigration system by increasing high-skilled temporary worker visas, called H-1B visas, by 500 percent. The measure would effectively address the needs of our nation’s high-skilled workforce by helping meet the growing demand for workers in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. It will also make block grants available to states to promote STEM education efforts and increase domestic STEM professionals. The committee voted against the amendment 4 to 14 with every Democrat voting against it on a party-line vote.

Sen. Cruz’s amendment would: Immediately increase the H-1B cap by 500 percent from 65,000 to 325,000.

Same thing.

The Senate is hamstringing itself. Once they give Zerohissef to negotiate, he can negotiate anything he wants up to and including 2ndA curtailments, free speech limits, globull warming requirements and any other destructive thing he wants. AND he will too.

YES, the Senate has to approve but they will have to approve all or none. While they will piously look to heaven and bemoan certain parts, I can hear them say there is too much that is good in it and reluctantly vote for the treaty.
