From the “word of mouth” history I grew up with, maybe Jim Crow was not unreasonable, although not right.

Reconstruction was a pisspoor time in most of the South, Carpet baggers and ex-slaves given the reins of local government caused LOTS of earned resentment, which in turn resulted in the pushback called Jim Crow.

Now understood that the history we grew up hearing was not the same history as the “Victors” wrote, so who knows which was fact.

I do know that much of the anti-black cultural claims, many non-Southerns would call bigotry, damn sure have proven true now that they are more free to act natural with very limited constraint. Public schools are practically rioting in the classroom, real families are almost non-existant and their neighborhoods are pure unrestrained crimewaves, urban or rural.

Why? As Tom Selleck put it in a Blue Bloods episode, “Blacks will call the fire department to help rescue a cat up a tree, but when the FD gets in the ‘hood, no one will tell them where the tree is the cat is in”. Blacks, maybe partially right for fear of the Authority, and this has led them to protect the criminals in their midst. Who is to blame for that? I say the slave traders, Reconstruction and LBJ.

For the record, I never did call it bigotry or racist; I found out for myself just how true, how universal such stereotypes actually were.

I went to a racially segregated school for a time, as the only non-black person to actually last the full term there.

By the end of the term, I was literally begging my parents, and the Dallas school board, to re-assign me to a more integrated (and closer to home) school.

The school board had done this bussing, to purportedly increase racial diversity and improve test scores in their black schools. (It got to the point where even schools with a large number of Hispanic kids did better than black schools!)

Racial division has become so bad in Obama's America, that I identify more with Southern whites, than I do with my own ethnic group. It's illegals and gangbangers (black and Hispanic) on one side, and God-fearing, conservative men on the other. (for the most part)

These are tough times for conservative people of colour. (I still speak Spanish, by the way)
