Unschooling and home schooling are NOT the same things. The kids in question were not learning anything.

Of course they should be allowed to opt out if the kids are not being educationally disadvantaged (have the same access to resources, perform at least at the level of the local public school etc).

I’m just not of the mind that parents get a free pass as long as the kids look happy running around in the dirt.

That is what they want you to believe....

You need to look closer at this families history.

Just so you know the father, at the end of that tape...tells his friend to “make this go viral”....

Listen to those tapes without seeing thru the fog the press is running this.....look for what she is saying....not the emotion.

They knew two weeks ahead the sheriff was coming o what was all this talk of hers about “getting an attorney “ who she should have been certain was their when he arrived.

The father purposely took the children, except for the two boys who were with him when he stole and trespassed the neighbor by threatening with a gun.

The full exchange between this neighbor and man are not being posted that I've seen...but he did threaten the neighbor according to the complaint.

As fro taking the children....in the tape the sheriff said the paperwork was happening as they spoke......which the authorities do not have to produce at the time, but within 24 hours of removing the kids. So the sheriff was legally within his boundaries. Additionally....there were 'no state social workers with the sheriff'......they had already been refused prior CPS'S request to speak with the children.

Well if they’re defrauding people, which it looks like they are scammers, then charge them.

I object to seizing the children.

“As if the public is suppose to help them build the life they desire....and they seem to believe the public should.”

Why not? We do it every day through welfare, SBA, congress,
and through every corporate lobbyist that sets foot in DC.
At least these bum’s looked like they were trying to do something
which is better than most of the bums that mooch off the
public trough.

This comment is not meant to support or condone anything wrong
or illegal these people did. Nor is it meant to be an insult
to you or anyone who may find it offensive.
Just saying.

CPS generally is not quick to cease children.....it's a fallacy saying that is something they want to do. Usually if there's a complaint about children they have to follow up...the mother refused prior to the incident with the sheriff.

To remember is this family has not just been fighting for their rights, as they claim, they've also been resisting police and their tactics are well known to to the authorities as well as the people they've shamed along the way. There's far too much history with this family 'NOT' about their lifestyle.

Home schooling wasn’t the problem because that isn’t what the parents were doing...no matter how many times WND says it. There aren’t even books or places on the property to call study areas unless the family had been living in a real house in the past (which I half suspect).

So.......the state is going to remove all the children out of Baltimore, living in poor conditions?

Have you seen the series “Buying Alaska”?

People pay small fortunes for much less.

I don’t see anyone having a collective stroke about those houses.

I don't buy your argument....sorry. I understand why this couple believes what it does regarding the public to assist them....and is one of the reasons they previously joined the Mormon church....she speaks of this on her blog.

But there is a difference between helping people in need...and helping people who chose to live a lifestyle of need because they are ill suited to accomplish that lifestyle on their own.

It would not surprise me they were booted from the church because they believed people should do their part and help them achieve their goals they set higher then what was possible for them to accomplish in the time they wanted.

This couples plans were not working as they wanted...bounced checks evidence they were stretched, as does other evidence which continues to come out.

IMO they got themselves between a rock and hard place.....the fathers assult on the neighbor jeprodized there circumstances all the more if he were to be arrested. Thus he was not there when the police arrived...even though he knew full well they were coming.

His arrival later seemed too convenient and the fact that the only children there were the very sons the police wanted to speak to regarding the fathers offense. She was simply trying to protect his arrest from happening. To say this gets complicated is an understatement....I believe the authorities have tried to accomodate this couple and that they themselves have created these circumstances they find themselves in. We shall see as this plays out...but there's a whole lot we don't know still.

Then charge them and convict them. Don’t just roll up and take the children.

And all the Alaskan natives.

“Home schooling wasn’t the problem because that isn’t what the parents were doing”

I agree. My disagreement is on whether working parents with
a baby/s could home school.

It’s a freaking miracle that farm kids aren’t grabbed by the feds every day.

Wading around in dung, with dangerous critters at every turn, just waiting to kill them.

I thank God I grew up in saner times.

I’m sure my barefoot, feral, scruffy little self would have been rounded up, too.

FWIW, neither of my parents even knew where I was, from sunup to sundown.

“Somewhere in the woods. Her horse and dog are gone.”

Nobody came looking for me, either.

The Judge was already preparing the appropriate papers and told her that as they spoke....and according to law does not have to present them at the time IF the children are removed...rather has 24 hours to present them. She was presented them while in jail thereafter. Which tells me immediately if the sheriffs intent was there to remove them he would have papers in hand......he clearly warned her and tried to deter this from happening.

Their interest was to discover what the kids had to say regarding their dads actions with the neighbor. The mother was standing in the way even though she had more than ample time to get an attorney before this.

IMO the mother simply was not going to imagine not having her husband there if he were to be arrested for obviously threatening the neighbor with a gun...and having her son get the gun.

She knows her rights...but she also knows they could arrest him. She was interfering in the investigation...it had nothing to do with how she was raising her kids. THAT was a CPS matter, and why they weren’t with the sheriff....IMO she is simply trying to prevent her husbands arrest...and secure the family if he is...thus the gofundme went up the very next day.

This family plays the public rather then the government system, IMO and I do not see a difference in the motive of those who abuse the government system. Both are taking advantage and pleading their causes deceptively.

...”Then charge them and convict them. Don’t just roll up and take the children”...

As the sheriff said, as did she...they, the authorities, had been trying for, a very long period of time, NOT to do that. She was interfering in an investigation...and she knew that she was... So did they.... Removing the sons to question them regarding the father's criminal behavior was not unusual...but is a last resort. This was the last resort after many other failed attempts to get the family to cooperate with this investigation. As I see it the problem here was when the father had his son go get the gun while threatening the neighbor........this couple knows now and did then it's a fine line when you actively get your children involved as that...and they stepped over that line clearly.
