ts a Guggen-crime.
The Upper East Side museum banned a Brooklyn high school for life after its students were deemed too rowdy on a recent visit a move that some call discipline and others discrimination.
A group of about 80 kids from Downtown Brooklyns Science Skills Center HS were kicked out after just 20 minutes after a student allegedly spat off the museums swirling rotunda lobby and another threw a penny off its winding walkway. The coin was rumored to have hit a security guard.
It was only a handful of troublemakers, but the whole group of ninth- and 10-graders got the boot, with the museum forcing them to wait outside for an hour for their bus to arrive.
Many never got to glimpse the gallerys Picassos, van Goghs and Monets or even finish checking out the main display by Japanese artist On Kawara...
...Shortly afterward, the school was told it was not welcome back.
Just last week, First Lady Michelle Obama pleaded for art institutions to be more welcoming of kids from all backgrounds.
You see, there are so many kids in this country who look at places like museums and concert halls and other cultural centers and they think to themselves, Well, thats not a place for me, for someone who looks like me, for someone who comes from my neighborhood, she said, speaking at the opening of the new Whitney Museum in the Meatpacking District.
Guggenheim rules state that people should speak quietly, not run and not disturb other visitors. However, gallery visitors complained about the students obnoxious behavior, with one angrily requesting a refund because of the troublesome teens.

Damn racism once again!
Has not the First Lady pointed out that museums are racist?
What do they care? The Wookie said that Black kids don’t get into White museum stuff. They were probably happy to leave.
That is racist. Change the rules to say speak loudly, run around and disturb others. Then they will be culturally sensitive.
So the Guggenheim proves Michelle was correct. That was fast. How long before the director of the museum gets fired?

“I am not responsible for my actions. You — on the other hand — you are fully responsible for ... everything bad in the world.”
“Rules are for white people.”
Surely there’s a museum for black people that features loud music, yelling, gunfire, looting and general hooliganism? Oh wait, that’s an amusement park.
Or a Chuck E. Cheese.
I never understand this feral behavior. But its hardly racist to have rules of behavior and decorum.
It must be pointed out that if a group of white students behaved this way, they also would be evicted . That fact proves this is not a racist incident.
Museums are for white people, lol.
Kids are too old to use the “just children” excuse.
I'm sure they would have been enriched by the experience. /s
I just love self-explanatory titles, didn’t even need to read the article to have the facts pop right up. Can’t wait for the media spin on this one, should be lots of fun reading!
FLOTUS will be glad, she’s justified.
What a freakin coincidence that she was talking about this. This must have been a setup.
Most teens I’ve been around aren’t going to be that attentive in an art museum. I’m doubtful about taking a large crew who haven’t been “prepped” to any kind of museum. If the teens are instructed about what they are about to see and broken up into groups of no more than a half dozen with a teacher or assistant who knows about the subject and can keep order, the kids will both be more civil and actually get something out of the trip.
Of course there are some, like Michelle, who are better off not going at all.
OMG. Anyone familiar with Six Flags America near Washington,DC, can tell you how that place is a ghetto theme park. I’m sure other places have similar problems with feral youth and uncivilized behavior. Decent people I know in the DC area avoid Six Flags.
Take a Valium or two before you go to a public high school graduation nowadays.
Some people have no sense of decorum or manners. And don’t you dare say anything to ‘them’ or about ‘them.’
