The odds of an Iran nuclear deal just got higher (Corker = Kabuki Theater)
Washington Post ^ | May 7, 2015 | Greg Sargent

One hundred and fifty House Democrats have now signed a letter expressing strong support for President Obama’s ongoing negotiations with Iran over its nuclear program, I’ve learned, improving the chances that an eventual nuclear deal could survive the Congressional oversight process.

The 150 Democratic signatories — which include Dem leaders like Nancy Pelosi and Chris Van Hollen — are significant. Here’s why: If a deal is reached that looks like the recently-announced framework, and the GOP-controlled Congress votes to disapprove of it, it’s now more likely that there will be enough House Democrats to sustain Obama’s veto of that disapproval legislation, allowing the deal to move forward.

Here is the Kabuki theater: Obama sends Iranian deal which in reality is a treaty to Congress. Both houses of Congress based on GOP members and Pro-Israel Democrats vote down the deal. Obama vetoes the "disapproval" of the deal. The 150 House Democrats will vote not to override the veto therefore the Iranian deal is basically law and Obama can lift sanctions and the like.

Why are conservatives so easily duped?

If the Senate does not approve of the “Deal” (Treaty being the legal term most likely), then it is game over for said “Deal/Treaty”.

Absurd warping of Constitutional law by this administration is nothing new, but I can’t see them getting away with it in the long run. However, if they can twist Constitutional law in this manner with no repercussions, then it is time to liquidate the Federal Government and start from scratch, IMO.

How does this work? Obama sends a treaty to the senate. The senate fails to ratify it then Obama vetoes what the senate DID NOT do and the treaty becomes law? The senate should just go home. Obama has already taken dictatorial control. Remember, all dictators have people in legislative positions that approve everything the dictator wants.

Duped?!?!?! Was that sarcasm?

Sir, the only real question to ask at this point is: Why there is no legitimate opposition party in the United States of America, Inc.?

Getting reelected is job #1.

Everything else, including the constitution, senatorial consent to treaties and national security are of little concern.

It is why the states must be returned to the senate.

This “deal” by Obama is not happening in a political vacuum. The “deal” is essentially a fig leaf to cover the Obama decision to change long standing American policy and allow Iran to obtain nuclear weapons. Obama has accepted the thesis that Iran wants the weapons for defensive purposes and despite mullah’s apocalyptic rhetoric, that they are not a threat to the United States or Israel. In any case he will not commit the United states to military action against Iran.
This “policy” is politically palatable to American voters who are very war weary and disillusioned by fruitless and costly US interventions in the region. Also due to demographic changes , a woeful ignorance of history in general and the Holocaust in particular has lessened American support for Israel. At best Obama can accurately be described as anti Zionist and a poll in Democratic Congressional districts would demonstrate more sympathy for Palestine than Israel if not overt Antisemitism. Obama may very well have the support of a near majority of voters.

The Corker bill is explicitly conceding to Obama that any Iranian deal is not a treaty. Corker is waving the white flag on another Obama caesarism move.

Well, I think you just described the same reasoning he used in claiming all the people that DID NOT vote last fall were really a vote of confidence in him.

The Framers set up opposing interests, and division of powers to secure liberty. When power cannot concentrate among the one, few, or even many, liberty can flourish.

First and foremost was vertical division of power between the states and the government they created.

With the 17th Amendment, all powers collapsed into Washington DC.

That is why there is no opposition. The money, wealth, power are too good to upset.

Traitors and saboteurs and whores selling out our country to the most vicious enemy since at least. WW2 Fortunately perhaps, washDC is on teheran’s top targets list so maybe the islamonazi nukes may at least deliver us a little poetic justice ?

Every day that goes by, I see the chances of our nation actually reclaiming its liberty by peaceful means receding into nothingness. While I see the likelihood of us ending up with a totalitarian police state, Balkanized into groups that are trained to be hostile to one another, growing larger and larger.

That’s why we should be so thankful the Framers included our natural right to frame our government as per Article V.

Congress has not honored one yet and I doubt they honor any now, even if we have enough statehouses ask for an article 5 convention.

Be advised that I have been following all of the Article V posts on this board. An article V convention features prominently in a novel I am writing.
