The Framers set up opposing interests, and division of powers to secure liberty. When power cannot concentrate among the one, few, or even many, liberty can flourish.

First and foremost was vertical division of power between the states and the government they created.

With the 17th Amendment, all powers collapsed into Washington DC.

That is why there is no opposition. The money, wealth, power are too good to upset.

Every day that goes by, I see the chances of our nation actually reclaiming its liberty by peaceful means receding into nothingness. While I see the likelihood of us ending up with a totalitarian police state, Balkanized into groups that are trained to be hostile to one another, growing larger and larger.
