WHY THE ATTACK ON LOCAL POLICE?
boblonsberry.com ^ | 05/07/15 | bob Lonsberry

Posted on 05/07/2015 6:41:30 AM PDT by shortstop

When you recognize what, you need to ask why.

It’s called situational assessment.

What’s going on, and why is it going on?

Like right now, in America, with the police.

What’s going on, and why is it going on?

What’s going on is that there is a concerted effort to defame and denounce local police. The president said this week that, across the country, men of color are treated differently, more harshly, by the police.

He offered no data, no balance, no facts.

Just the broadside indictment that all American cops are racists.

Protest after protest, often with veteran progressive activists in command, have denounced and condemned the police. It is asserted as an unassailable fact that the police are racist, over-armed and disrespectful of people and their rights.

None of it is backed up with facts, or anything other than a string of undocumented anecdotal accounts that sound like folklore.

Fingers point at Ferguson, where three investigations showed that the officer did nothing but defend himself against a violent attack. Fingers point at Baltimore where everything boils down to a prisoner not having his seatbelt on.

And speaking of Baltimore, it is a city with a 2-to-1 black majority, a black mayor and city council, a black police chief and a black prosecuting attorney, and a 43-percent black police force, and yesterday they announced that they were partnering with the Justice Department to root out anti-black practices.

All stemming from an incident in which three of the six officers charged are black.

The claim of racism has become so powerful that it is made and accepted as fact in the absence of evidence or logic.

That’s the what.

There is a concerted effort to damage public perception of local police, and to paint the profession of American law enforcement as a tool of anti-black racism.

So what’s the why?

Here’s my theory.

In an administration that is intensely focused on the accumulation of federal power, and under a president who promised a federal domestic security force to rival the Defense Department in both personnel and budget, I think the goal is to lay the foundation for turning traditional law enforcement over to federal police.

In each of the flare ups of late, the federal government has presented itself as the solution – even though it is clear the speeches and statements of senior federal officials fanned if not sparked the flames of conflict.

The federal government has presented itself as the only protection blacks and Latinos have against racist cops.

The federal government is doing everything it can to create the perception of a problem, and to simultaneously present itself as the solution to the problem.

To me, that smells like a power grab.

And the government can’t take to itself more power without taking from you more rights.

More specifically, increased policing powers in the hands of the federal government makes those police agencies less accountable to the people. It also increases the potential, in the worst of circumstances, of despotic or oppressive actions.

Local police departments, controlled by local chiefs and sheriffs – and the voters to whom they or their bosses have to answer – are not threats to civil rights, they are protectors of civil rights.

The federal government has never really explained its need for something approaching a half a billion handgun bullets that could only be used for domestic policing. Why is it that agencies like the Department of Interior and the Bureau of Land Management, as well as the Department of Agriculture, have heavily armed military-style SWAT teams?

And why is it that the president of the United States would work so hard to destroy public confidence in American law enforcement? Specifically, why would he do so much to assure the alienation of black Americans from the police?

The what is fact – Defaming the police and defining their entire profession as bigotry.

The why is theory – To turn enough Americans against the police to justify a power grab by the federal government.

And that’s no good.

And it’s all based on a lie.

Because as the president and the TV anchors talk about police and community relations, I don’t know what they’re talking about.

My community has great relations with the police. We respect them and they respect us.

And polls show that Americans trust the police more than they trust politicians. Personally, I trust my local cops more than I trust my national president.

What is being whipped up against the police is not logic or fact, it is prejudice and bigotry. And it is being whipped up for a reason.

And that’s what I think we ought to be worried about.

Okay, it is a multi part plan.
First step was to alter police culture into an “us vs them” mentality.
Next was to militarize them.
Concurrently was this push to idolize and worship criminals.
Revolving door justice etc adds frustration to police work.
Let simmer for a couple years, then sensationalize criminals getting their due.
(While similarly downplaying actual cases of misconduct, this muddies the water and prevents any actual reformation from happening.)

Now, push for federal takeover of the police.
Guess where we are at?
You guessed it, the push to have a federal police force over every town.
As if that would be any better.

But I get told often “we don’t live in Mayberry, and this isn’t the 50’s”, my response to that is “Why not?”
It wasn’t all that long ago that one could talk to the local police as if they were human, and they didn’t try to make up charges “just because”.
[Yes, for some of you out there, that does happen. Look up “Wallkill NY PD watchdog” to see what happens when a PD becomes a danger to the community..in NY. Also, Sussex NJ PD got shut down due to widespread corruption. Involving evidence in the evidence locker.]

Because 0 wants a national police force. In order to get there, he and the media have to paint local forces as evil and racist.

Federalizing all law enforcement isn’t an end goal.
It’s a stepping stone to their real agenda.
For the current crop of racists in the gov’t,
that goal includes “getting back at YT”.
They know, though, that there won’t be passive acceptance of this oppression,
so the fedpolice are going to be there to make sure
we don’t defend ourselves.

We have about 50% too many police. We’d be better off putting the savings to paying down debt. Americans need to be encouraged to take care of themselves and not depend on a police force that will rarely ever be there when needed, except to collect evidence after the fact.

Spoken like a true government centralizer.

The number of police that are on my local police is a matter that is between my local police and the local citizens of my locality.

Hands off Obama and you.

Ah... the true “legacy of slavery” is the ability of tyrants to use the specter of “racism” to implement everything they want to do to us.

Gee with Federal oversight there will be complete transparency, just look at the promptness of the investigation of Miriam Carey’s death and the final report..............

Pretty hard to get to know your local police and deputies when they are either in a patrol car/truck with very dark tinted windows or in the station house/sub-station. I have spoke to a few at gas stations over the years. I quit doing that after I addressed one as Deputy L....... and was immediately corrected. “That is Sargeant L.......”. since I am an old guy, I can remember actually cops stopping and talking to you. Out mowing the yard, it was not unusual for a patrol car to stop, cop get out and just chat. He was not only becoming a known to the neighborhood, but finding out what was going on on his beat. Proactive instead of reactive. When an officers was moved to another beat or shift, it did not take more than a few days before the neighbors wanted to know, where to what happened to Officer .......
Boy, are those days long gone.

People need to get to know their local cops. I stood out in the alley the other day and chatted with the Sheriff’s deputy for 20 minutes the other day.

A lot of LE assume you're just a perp in waiting. I'm not paranoid but I do feel like I have to watch every word I say. I didn't use to feel that way.

Good post yours (#28). In the past year I've gone up to a cop twice to ask a question.

First time: Cop A answered my question. Then we had a little chat.
Second time: Cop B barely acknowledged my presence. I got a curt non-answer to a very reasonable question.

Well, here's one difference between the two cops. Cop A looked to be in his early 50's. Cop B was a muscle-bound guy in his 20's.

It’s called creating a need for the “national security force’ that’s “just as well-organized, just as well-funded” as our military.

The only question is, will it be brown, black or
multi-colored shirts.

IMHO

ding ding ding ding...winner winner winner winner...

You can usually weed out the riff raff, if any, thru that kind of contact...

Find out when and where they’ll be on their shifts, say help, and be prepared for them to have to scoot off at the drop of a hat, no offense meant, to take care of something...

I make a couple of casseroles for Thanksgiving, and Christmas when I know some of them are not going to get those days off...One for the local constable office, and one for the local FD around the corner...

Not doing that to expect any special treatment of consideration...

I wonder how many in the black community (i.e.: Baltimore or Ferguson) ever do things like that for their local first responders???

I would bet on zero...

So you get what you pay for...Zero tolerance, and above normal scrutiny for hoodrats in general...

Truth sucks...

The cop was out here waiting for a couple of problem kids to get out of school just to gently nudge them to let them know that they were heading for trouble. I told him that I had a less than stellar youth myself.

He told me that on his previous shift in town he had arrested a 20 year old homeless person for child molesting so he was considering moving out this way for the safety and benefit of his young kids. I pointed out a couple of empty houses if he wanted to check them out.

We really liked our local police department but don’t have enough crime to justify paying them so we disbanded them and contracted with the county.

Exactly, it has already started with the left wanting the local law enforcements to be "trained" by the Feds... In the end, your local sheriff will not fire needlessly on you, but the O's national force will.

What’s going on is that there is a broader effort to defame and denounce local police.

Its all part of a concerted effort spanning many years.

First, it was an attack on the clergy particularly Catholic priests. Now it is more of a general program to denigrate Christians in general as "intolerant".

Second has been the attack on teachers. There is a strong bias in the media to sensationalize the miniscule percentage that are child molesters.

Third now is the assault on anyone wearing a police uniform.

Coincidence? Think back to your childhood years when you were advised to go to a Priest, a teacher or a cop whenever you needed help. Now where are you supposed to go?

To the government, of course.
