You can call it a bureaucratic blunder or a Washington blooper.
But any way you slice it a move by the federal government to make the city remove Times Squares iconic billboards falls in the category of whose bright idea is this?
It is known as the Crossroads of the World, the Center of the Universe and the Great White Way, but Times Square could become like the Black Hole of Calcutta if the federal government has its way, CBS2s Marcia Kramer reported Tuesday.
The feds say many of Times Squares huge and neon-lit billboards must come down or the city will lose about $90 million in federal highway money.

we cant have any alerts going out on Billboards...nope!
Wow.
Blazio will cave
“Good! Feel the pain idiots!”
I agree. Let the elitist New York liberals live by the laws they pass and the rules they impose on the rest of the nation.
My memory may be a bit foggy about the lawsuit but a quick web search for “Uncle Sam billboard” will return several articles that talk about his fights with WSDOT and the feds.
How are the 2 related?
Times Square is not part of the Federal
Highway system....
It’s technically an arterial route to the National Highway system, thus under a 2012 law, comes under Fedzilla control.
Ah, geez. Go stuff yourself, obama....and the jackass you rode in on!
But...eeuuww! Who would want to hang around and see those! LOL!
NYC voted over 85% for O. Let them stew in it.
Seriously? NY would lose $90M road money unless they take down the TS billboards? Any idea how much NYC would lose if they DID take down the TS billboards? Not even comparable. $90M is chump change.
Boy I'll say. They deserve whatever comes their way...Including another terrorist attack.
They could have demanded another Guillani.
But Noooooooo....
Insane. BTW, as a New Yorker (although I don’t live there now, but visit often and in fact just came back from there today), I have always hated Times Square and thought it was not typical of New York...but at the same time, it’s an image in people’s minds and tourists love it. So I have no complaints, especially now that it’s been semi-cleaned up and the boy prostitutes and elderly female hookers are gone.
I went to the new Whitney Museum and the family member I was visiting told me that Moochelle had dedicated the museum (er...why? The woman is ignorant.) and that de Blasio was practically licking her toes because he thought he was being favored by the goddess of the left.
The issue is not whether they care or don’t care. I’m sure they don’t. They look down their noses at those in rural areas (”flyover country”). The issue is their need to CONTROL others.
Gets my vote as long as people don’t go overboard and ask for trouble, as in not paying taxes or something along those lines.
I’d have to agree, if they haven’t woken up by now.
People are idiots to be sure, but I don’t wish idiots any bad situation. I do wish they would wake up. That may take some pain, but 09/11 sure didn’t wake them up when it comes to national security.
Do the billboards In NYC...block a lot of fantastic VEIWS? are they restricting Forest Growth ???
Moreover, I cannot find a federal highway within half-a-mile of Times Square. What else would justify jurisdiction?
Obie has a pen and a phone and he has to do SOMETHING afteral!!?
