The next time they appear in court for homeschooling, Dirk and Petra Wunderlich could face four years in prisoneach. I am sad today, said Dirk Wunderlich, recounting how on April 28 he lost his most recent case in the German state of Hesse, and also heard dire warnings from the presiding judge.
We had hoped the judge, who seemed open-minded and friendly, might give us a chance, Wunderlich added. But no, he said he could not: The law is the law. In their most recent court appearance, Dirk and Petra Wunderlich were fined 450 euros each (about $1,000) for not sending their children to school. Their case was opened in 2012 and was just concluded this week after numerous encounters with legal authorities, including one heartbreaking incident where state officials seized their four children in August 2013.
Although the children were returned after three weeks on the condition that they go to school, Dirk and Petra Wunderlich did not regain legal custody until August 2014. It was at that point that the parents decided to continue homeschooling. Now, even though he faces a prison sentence if his family stays in Germany, Dirk Wunderlich said they have nowhere else to go.
We wandered around Europe for years looking for a place where we could live peacefully and raise our children without this pressure, he said. But we had to come back here. It isnt easy to get jobs in other countries always. And besides, this is our home. We are Germanswhy should we have to leave our country to do home education?

Even though the German courts may be stuck following Hitler era laws, there is the real threat in Germany that parallel societies will emerge, especially Islamic ones. The United States is not immune to this as the United Nations and our current government bring millions of Islamic Immigrants to our shores.
Will Christians be able to raise their children at home in the future? Will the state pass draconian laws outlawing homeschooling? If Europe is any indication of the future, this freedom may not last forever...
Germany is a tyranny
Yes, but fortunately we don't have to worry about that happening here in America.
Obama said it wouldn't and that we shouldn't be listening to people like you.
It would not surprise me. That is what the authorities would be possibly pressed to do if people began resisting pro-homo, pro-union, pro-Islam, pro-gender neutral washroom, pro-ebonic, pro-illegal immigrant, anti-Western, anti-capitalist, anti-America educational agenda.
lol
Seems particularly sad about the “getting jobs” problem. Are there no Christians left anywhere in Europe that they could go, who could arrange something for this chap and his family? Given that the USA has fallen down on its heretofore historical role here?
What’s wrong with HOME SCHOOLING?
ABE LINCOLN WAS HOME SCHOOLD.
Oops, I forgot, they might learn some Morals and CHRISTIANITY,
Oh, everybody learns morals. It’s just a question of what is their source.
We really ought to stop assuming that “morals” = “good morals.”
The virtues of Islam are not taught in Christian Homeschools, therefore they must be eradicated...
Yep...;-(
If you want a real scare, just read this ABC News article on what a couple of Austrailian “educational philosophers” are advocating:
http://www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/philosopherszone/new-family-values/6437058
Some of the choice “gems”:
“One way philosophers might think about solving the social justice problem would be by simply abolishing the family. If the family is this source of unfairness in society then it looks plausible to think that if we abolished the family there would be a more level playing field. “
“Private schooling cannot be justified by appeal to these familial relationship goods, he says. Its just not the case that in order for a family to realise these intimate, loving, authoritative, affectionate, love-based relationships you need to be able to send your child to an elite private school.”
It doesn’t mention homeschooling by name, but if sending your kids to privates schools is “unfair”, I’m sure homeschooling is too.
Total insanity reigns.
I remind everyone reading this thread, that this family sought asylum in the US from persecution... but they had not illegally crossed the southern border, or flew into Boston Logan from a Muslim shithole, and were promptly rebuffed.
Is this the family to which obama refused asylum while his Aunt Zituni (or whatever) and drunk driving uncle live here illegally?
It’s the same family that HSLDA was representing? I had lost track of the story.

This is a second German family. The other family immigrated to the United States and was granted asylum in Tennessee, which the Obama administration sought to take away. The family now also has one or two(?) younger children who were born here. The U.S. government quietly dropped their case against them—probably because they didn’t want an embarrassing loss in court.
The socialists amongst us will never give up their stranglehold on education, ever. It is too valuable of a tool for indoctrinating the youth in to socialist way of thinking, and ultimately makes it easier to control the masses as a consequence. Read the book “1984” for a prime example of what I’m talking about.
For the very reason as noted above, the only real solution to this is to abolish government enforced compulsory education.
The federal government, let alone any other government agency, has no legitimate purpose for being involved in education. The results of government education mandates are glaringly obvious: the cost per pupil has skyrocketed, and the kids are getting dumber at the same rate.
Can this family also be granted asylum?
If you look at the early Bolsheviks, you’d see they were no different regarding the need to completely destroy the family unit...and they were DEAD SERIOUS about it, to the point that even Lenin and Stalin had to tell them to back off a bit.
These types of angry people have been around throughout history...and they’ll keep re-appearing in some form.
