Women who pass SEAL training will likely be able to participate in the same military missions as their male counterparts, beginning in 2016.
The U.S. Naval Special Warfare Command put out a report saying the physical standards currently demanded of SEAL trainees should not be lowered, but that women who meet these standards ought to be given the chance to head into combat, Fox News reported.
The study will likely press Defense Secretary Ashton Carter to advance the cause for women in combat, with the effective date of January 2016, Fox said.
Carter has opened up 20,000 new positions to women since February, CNN reported. And at a Georgetown University event last week, he said he was “pretty optimistic” the military would open up all positions, including combat, to women by early 2016, CNN reported.
But he also courted controversy with separate comments at that same event.
When asked how the opening of combat positions to women would impact his push to end sexual assaults among troops, Carter said: “Obviously, as we get women into more unaccustomed positions, maybe dangerous isolated positions, maybe positions where they are fewer, in relation to the number of men, it opens up opportunities for predators. I can’t help but believe for many people they’ll learn better how to conduct themselves, how to interact across gender lines and so forth. And that will contribute to prevention and eventually eradication of sexual assaults.”
Republican Arizona Rep. Martha McSally said Carter’s statements actually counter any efforts to open combat roles to women, CNN reported.

Ha. That will last about three months until they lower the standards so some women can actually become SEALS. Then they won't be SEALs anymore.
I cant ever imagine more than a handful getting through SEAL training
and lets take the real world considerations. trying to act macho in front of a woman causing danger to the group, trying to save the lady not matter what the costs.. and so on...they are still human

There wont be a lady there.
Their experience integrating women into front line combat units has been very negative.
They have found that biggest issue is not whether women have the strength and physical endurance to do the job or to make effective soldiers, the big issue is that women, on average, are simply not physically rugged enough to withstand the abuse that hard core combat training and actual combat metes out to the human body.
The women are very well conditioned and highly motivated, but their injury rates are astronomical and the incidence of injury leading to serious permanent or long term disability is many times that of male soldiers and unacceptably high from a personal safety standpoint for the women.
This in no big news flash.
The disability rate for male career soldiers is very high and always has been.
Any reunion of old soldiers is full of talk of “second hand backs” and the like simply from humping 120 lb packs up and down the boonies for 20 years, not to mention actual combat injuries.
Examination of the remains of Napoleon's troops who marched through Russia show that their bodies were severely worn out at a very young age by the rigors of the military service of the day.
Hard soldiering takes it's toll on even the strongest and toughest men but it can be physically debilitating and lead to permanent physical disability for many women.
Not only will the standards be lowered for the women, but having women in a combat situation such as the SEALS, will get a lot of the male SEALS killed. The reason being if a female SEAL is in possible danger, you know that the male SEAL will do everything he can to protect her; thereby, putting himself in danger.
