Ted Cruz ‘reached out to the Pentagon’ about martial law conspiracy theory
MSNBC ^ | May 2, 2015 | Emma Margolin

Depending on whom you ask, “Jade Helm 15” is either a domestic military training exercise or a covert operation for the federal government to take over the state of Texas – and 2016 presidential candidate Ted Cruz just became the latest Republican to fan the flames of the latter theory.

Speaking at the South Carolina Republican Party’s annual convention Saturday, the Texas senator told Bloomberg’s David Weigel that his office had contacted the Pentagon about the exercise, which officially consists of a series of training drills throughout the Southwest for about 1,200 special operations personnel, including Green Berets and Navy SEALs. Conspiracy theorists operating on the fringes of the conservative blogosphere, however, have other ideas about what the exercise, known as Jade Helm 15, is intended to do – such as implement martial law, seize Americans’ guns, and imprison political dissidents.

Rather than squash those theories outright, Cruz apparently decided it was better to be safe than sorry.

“My office has reached out to the Pentagon to inquire about this exercise,” he said. “We are assured it is a military training exercise. I have no reason to doubt those assurances, but I understand the reason for concern and uncertainty, because when the federal government has not demonstrated itself to be trustworthy in this administration, the natural consequence is that many citizens don’t trust what it is saying.”(continued)

To have the military free to roam over private property without permission from landowners is a dangerous business in Texas. Someone is likely to be shot by mistake.

His Constituents were concerned so he took the time to ask the Pentagon what they were doing.

Gee, a guy that listens to his Constituents just lost your Vote.

Like it or not, we are also Obama’s Constituents and he hates our Guts...

Might have been something “different” about this iteration of the drill.

Take a wild guess at who has a personal issue with me for a dozen past ‘encounters’?

No, I am a critical thinking American conservative. I don’t trust my government, but I DO trust the best military personnel and their ove of the country.

To actually believe that they will follow illegal orders enmass takes a real vacation from sane, logical thinking.

And to suggest I am the crazy one is laughable.

but time will tell. Let us convene in two weeks and if the Internet is still working you can apologize.

“The point is: they don’t need to take over.
That wouldn’t be the objective.
Tell me, did the 1993 WTC bombers take over NY?”

As the night drags on, you make less and less sense. What’s your point?

There is NO legitimate need for this exercise.

If the Pentagon wants to run such an operation, do it in the border towns of Mexico. Really....

I never claimed they’re up to no good or scheming on martial law, and if we had a “normal” president no one would be thinking along these lines. Or do you think that Mr. Obama is above reproach?

Plain English pal.
Did the 1993 WTC bombers take over NY or not?

He just lost my vote.

Well, he's got my vote because I'm the 'nut' that wants to know what is going on between my state and the federal government. He works for me and the other concerned voters of Texans. That's what we elected him to do - to ask questions.

Sorry you've never had a 'Waco' experience in your state. Maybe then you would know something about our distrust of the federal government. So quit attacking Ted Cruz for doing his job.

"This whole JH thing is an embarrassment to the right."

It's an embarrassment to the Military.

They SHOULD show a force on the border. And not as an exercise.

Can someone say if something different is going on with this iteration of the drill. It would be on a level with everything else the Obama administration is doing, to amp up childish tweaks at Redneckland. Like to say we are ready to take you over.
