".........While the joke goes that every senator looks in the mirror each morning and sees a potential occupant of the Oval Office, senators do have automatic fund-raising bases and little difficulty attracting the spotlight. Still, since 1960, only two — John F. Kennedy of Massachusetts and Barack Obama of Illinois — have risen directly to the White House....

....For now, Republican Senate colleagues are optimistic about the presidential aspirants’ ability to make it back to Washington for crucial votes, and about the party leadership’s willingness to try to work around their campaign schedules, when possible.

“Remember when Obama and Clinton were running? And we didn’t see much of them, did we?” said Senator Richard C. Shelby of Alabama.

Senator John McCain of Arizona, who was in a similar situation as the Republican presidential nominee in 2008, warned that senators running for president face “a tough balancing act.”

“You’ve got to have your constituents largely supportive of your effort, and if you come close and get the nomination, they don’t mind,” he said. “But if you don’t succeed and you’ve missed a lot of votes, people are generally not happy about that.”

America needs a LEADER who will preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. I don’t care if it’s a former Governor, Legislator, or not.

Ted Cruz 2016

Sounds like the best they can come up with to stop Cruz is to repeat this nonsense as much as possible. I don’t think it’s going to work.

I thought the Senate voting difficulty was substantive.

I want to see some action taken for this campaign season re 2 U. S. Code 39. This has been an irritant to me for years. This rule covers both House and Senate members. There is a substantial amount of $$$ overpaid that is due reimbursement to we, the taxpayers for previous campaigns. They absolutely should not be paid while campaigning for higher office.

“”The Chief Administrative Officer of the House of Representatives (upon certification by the Clerk of the House of Representatives) shall deduct from the monthly payments (or other periodic payments authorized by law) of each Member or Delegate the amount of his salary for each day that he has been absent from the House, unless such Member or Delegate assigns as the reason for such absence the sickness of himself or of some member of his family.””
