My Sister's Closet ads pulled from light rail trains

PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Are they clever ads with a play on words, or are they just outright sexually-explicit?

A valley store's new billboards are at the center of controversy, and Valley Metro has already pulled them off their trains.

The ads are nothing new; chances are you've seen them on trucks or billboards around Phoenix.

The owner of My Sister's Closet said she entered into an advertising agreement, the ads were approved, so she was stunned when the ads were abruptly pulled.

"Wanted: One Night Stand, Buy a Bigger Chest, Make a Booty Call," my sister's closet thought these ads were cheeky, but Valley Metro thought differently.

A conservative would never run perverted ads like that

It’s in a grey area. One could call them double entendres. On the other hand it could challenge the readers why they are thinking that way. My GUESS... the complaining parties aren’t always this scrupulous.

These ads are very mild compared to the DirecTV ad “Hannah and her talking horse” where the horse is talking about being in ‘show business’ in Tijuana, and the Schick Electric Bikini Razor where the 3 girls in bikinis are standing in front of little ‘bushes’. 2 of the girls use scissors to awkwardly trim their ‘bushes’, but the 3rd girl uses the Schick Bikini Razor to quickly sculpt hers into a heart-shape.

They were intended to offend.

It’s sort of reminiscent of what would have been called seriously naughty over half a century ago. It kind of carries a nostalgic buzz.

That said, I could understand wanting to keep it squeaky clean. But then why not nix “Sell your sole [soul]” as well.

Maybe she could come at it from the blessing end, use puns that suggest virtuous things. Then the bus company could not complain.

In the sense of transgressing moral norms of maybe the early 20th century. Kind of a nostalgic offense.

At any rate, I get the sense that whoever complained was being hypocritical. But maybe this could be used as an occasion to revise the ads to suggest virtue instead of vice. Virtue is also very “offensive” today, but for a different reason.

“Mommy what is a Booty Call?”

I am sure so many parents are happy to see those ads everywhere. not.

I would google that but I am at the office... anyhow the modern way kids do this is to google it... which is why I asked. Is it some early 20th century euphemism?

As for the larger chest. Whatever that is, that is not a sex act. Is plastic surgery naughty? Someone is stretching there, pun intended.

I knew that would be said but the truth is it rather shows she is voting Republican.

Fortunately I don’t have to face life w/o a sense of humor. It must be really tough to do so.
