On Thursday, the Census Bureau released its most recent accounting of state government revenues across all state governments.
The newly released data provides us new data points to inspect whether Sam Brownback’s tax cuts have had the intended effect.

The crux of the issue, as sold, is not whether revenue would decline in the initial years.
The question is (and was) whether the tax cuts to individual income and corporate income taxpayers would benefit the jobs market and other areas of the economy.
Well, it’s early, but here’s the evidence.
Interestingly, relative to other states, Kansas has seen its employment growth accelerate (meaning year-over-year growth picked up).
The gain in Kansas’ employment acceleration, at 31%, has been much stronger than most other states.
This, unsurprisingly, suggests that Sam Brownback’s tax cuts are starting to show up. Employment growth relative to other states is accelerating much quicker than the average.
Overall, although it’s still early, it look like Kansas’ income tax reform is having the intended effect.
As expected, income tax and corporate income tax revenue is declining in the initial years (tax cuts don’t pay for themselves overnight), while employment growth in the state is starting to accelerate quicker than in other states.
The acceleration in employment growth relative to other states is what one would expect when tax burdens on productive workers and business owners are reduced (at least that’s how the tax cuts were sold and that appears to have happened so far).
We’ll see if the trend continues, but so far it appears that Sam Brownback is right – tax cuts boost economic and employment growth. It just doesn’t happen (or pay for itself) overnight.

Brownback is succeeding in shifting the tax burden from income to sales taxes, and will provide an example to the rest of the states...to the horror of the liberals!

I went to lunch with an old friend from a community (a couple of communities actually) that I know are virulently anti-Brownback. He brought it up and I said I was happy that I hadn’t had to pay Kansas state taxes and that now the tax cuts were working. All he could do was mutter and grump. It was lovely.
The liberals are absolutely beside themselves here. It has become a standing joke. You would think that pampering every little department of the state government is man’s highest calling.
We have the most cowardly and lazy press in the country, still promoting the story that only ‘the rich’ had their tax rates cut. In fact, we all did - and it’s showing.
The Kansas City Star has been working overtime to discredit Brownback’s policies and demand raises in taxes and increases to public union employees. The only thing working on the Missouri side of the metroplex is the Royals baseball team.
The Star has become the John Belushi falling off his chair, as far as the subject of Governor Brownback is concerned.
My friend calls it the Kansas City RED Star. I am from Missouri and I can’t believe I am saying it, but in this case I have to say ‘Go Kansas’.
I’ve always been a fan of Brownback.
Fiscally responsible.
Always has had the right view on illegal immigration.
He doesn’t get the accolades that Scott Walker gets because Kansas residents are quite as far left as Wisconsin, but Brownback is as equally effective and strong.

Actually it’s not strange. The left doesn’t think, it emotes. What’s more being an alliance between the economically illiterate and charlatans who regard higher costs for companies, lower salaries (in the private sector) and fewer paying customers (for private enterpises) as features, rather than bugs, it’s hardly surprising the left feels Brownback’s policies are bad.
It’s not Sam Brownback that’s right,
he’s just following real, proven economic theory.
Hmmmm... Tax cuts never fail to spur economic growth. Let’s do an experiment to see if they do.
