With massive violence spreading in Baltimore on Monday, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake is under fire for a statement she made over the weekend indicating that she ordered the city's police to give people the "space" to destroy property.
"I've made it very clear that I work with the police and instructed them to do everything that they could to make sure that the protesters were able to exercise their right to free speech," Rawlings-Blake said in a press conference.
"It's a very delicate balancing act, because, while we tried to make sure that they were protected from the cars and the other things that were going on, we also gave those who wished to destroy space to do that as well. And we worked very hard to keep that balance and to put ourselves in the best position to deescalate, and that's what you saw."
How could a mayor actually say she asked police to allow people to destroy property?
According to her office, her statement didn't quite come out the way she intended it to.
"What she is saying within this statement was that there was an effort to give the peaceful demonstrators room to conduct their peaceful protests on Saturday," her office said in a statement released on Monday. "Unfortunately, as a result of providing the peaceful demonstrators with the space to share their message, that also meant that those seeking to incite violence also had the space to operate. The police sought to balance the rights of the peaceful demonstrators against the need to step in against those who were seeking to create violence. The mayor is not saying that she asked police to give space to people who sought to create violence. Any suggestion otherwise would be a misinterpretation of her statement."
The office also put out an updated version of her comments, edited in a way to reflect what the office said she really meant:
"I've made it very clear that I work with the police and instructed them to do everything that they could to make sure that the protesters were able to exercise their right to free speech. It's a very delicate balancing act, because, while we tried to make sure that they were protected from the cars and the other things that were going on, we also [as a result] gave those who wished to destroy space to do that as well. And we worked very hard to keep that balance and to put ourselves in the best position to deescalate, and that's what you saw."
CVS will quietly demolish the shell and promise to return to that ghetto. It will just always be a year or two down the road but never happen. Let those thugs and thugettes get their diapers and formula from Abu’ for four times the price. They deserve it.
Indeed. I’d like to ask her how that 85 IQ is working out for her, but it would be best not to distract her lest she have to start over. ;)
There are no "peaceful demonstrators" there, just feral animals in need of ventilation...
Misunderstood? She flat came out and said it. How can you misinterpret that?
Super Super Stupidity
One of the problems with her ill considered statement is that insurers can interpret it as an abdication of her duty to take measures to protect the businesses. If they can make a case that she was negligent, they don’t have to pay any damages. Sort of like declaring Force Majeure.
Nice; that was when this country opposed communism (rather than electing them to the White House). Many of these protestors are saying very frankly that this is about money, not the dead guy; the Bolshevik Revolution of 2008 churns on.
It is difficult to reason with animals like this!!!!
What has happened in Baltimore that it doesn’t well deserve for electing this traitor as their mayor?
this stupid mayor is very cavalier about letting rioters destroy other people’s property, with her knowledge and consent and failure to enforce the law.... perhaps those people damaged ought to sue her personally and the city for damages and failure to enforce the law...
same for ferguson except add the governor...
these left wing stupid “public servants” should bear responsiblity for their dereliction of duty...
perhaps the same applies for those damaged by obama’s failure to enforce the border laws and burdening states and local governments with the illegal burden...
worth a try
I talked about this in a post. The insurance companies may have an excuse to avoid paying any damages. They can try to show that the Mayor told the police not to intervene and let the rioters destroy businesses. The business owners are going to have to sue the insurance companies and the city.
And she’s scared that things are slowing getting out of control. She’s scared too that if she lets the cops try to control the situation another black would be killed (maybe by an agitator?) - the governor has/is sending the NG - bet they’ll be unarmed ... and now Revrund Charlatan has been invited down and perhaps Jackson too ... then you can sweep what is left of Baltimore into the river ....
i grew up in Baltimore as did my frau. we have family there. i actually went to high school not far from the riots. I REFUSE to travel there as their draconian fascist gun laws do not allow me to defend myself meaning the politicians don’t care about my life.
“Insurance does not cover civil unrest”
Thank you. It’s amazing how little this is being mentioned.
Saul Alinsky would be proud.
People that run the little businesses are dirty little capitalists in the eyes of the Democratic elite. They are easy targets. Little do they know, these stores are not coming back and the neighborhoods are going to fade away. The former residents will probably never realize how badly they were stung by liberal politicians.
Definitely not a fan of this mayor, but she does not speak in ebonics. Racism much?
Real classy!
Shep and Judge Napolitano whining..... ‘Why aren’t the police doing something’
Duh
The mayor gives carte blanche to the rioting thugs.....and the police are suppose to risk death and injury to defend property.....
I don’t think so.
