How the Baltimore Mayor's office explains her infamous 'space to destroy' remark
The Washington Examiner ^ | 2015-04-27 | Philip Klein

Posted on 04/27/2015 6:26:36 PM PDT by E. Pluribus Unum

With massive violence spreading in Baltimore on Monday, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake is under fire for a statement she made over the weekend indicating that she ordered the city's police to give people the "space" to destroy property.

"I've made it very clear that I work with the police and instructed them to do everything that they could to make sure that the protesters were able to exercise their right to free speech," Rawlings-Blake said in a press conference.

"It's a very delicate balancing act, because, while we tried to make sure that they were protected from the cars and the other things that were going on, we also gave those who wished to destroy space to do that as well. And we worked very hard to keep that balance and to put ourselves in the best position to deescalate, and that's what you saw."

How could a mayor actually say she asked police to allow people to destroy property?

According to her office, her statement didn't quite come out the way she intended it to.

"What she is saying within this statement was that there was an effort to give the peaceful demonstrators room to conduct their peaceful protests on Saturday," her office said in a statement released on Monday. "Unfortunately, as a result of providing the peaceful demonstrators with the space to share their message, that also meant that those seeking to incite violence also had the space to operate. The police sought to balance the rights of the peaceful demonstrators against the need to step in against those who were seeking to create violence. The mayor is not saying that she asked police to give space to people who sought to create violence. Any suggestion otherwise would be a misinterpretation of her statement."

The office also put out an updated version of her comments, edited in a way to reflect what the office said she really meant:

"I've made it very clear that I work with the police and instructed them to do everything that they could to make sure that the protesters were able to exercise their right to free speech. It's a very delicate balancing act, because, while we tried to make sure that they were protected from the cars and the other things that were going on, we also [as a result] gave those who wished to destroy space to do that as well. And we worked very hard to keep that balance and to put ourselves in the best position to deescalate, and that's what you saw."

Stephanie Rawlings-Blake has put Baltimore on the fast track to becoming just another black run Detroit clone.

Her second statement makes as little sense as her first.

It's not easy to translate your thoughts from ebonics to English while speaking live on national TV,

Man,even the talking heads on the cable news channels are saying the mayor of Baltimore is a complete failure. Her news conference tonight was like she was in another world. Fox news reporters on the scene are saying they are hearing gun shots and fires are everywhere. They are saying Baltimore will burn tonight and the cops are doing nothing. Why no curfew tonight? all the news reporters are saying.

This is the America Obamalamadingdong has wrought. It does not matter what is in your heart, but what your pigmentation is.

As long as you have the proper skin tone, you can do no real wrong. You can only express your free speech rights.

The most important qualification of any mayor is skin color, so she’s covered there.

Looks like we have another “chocolate city” type mayor.

A round about way to put an end to gentrification maybe?

Either way, the citizens of these cities voted for these morons and deserve this.

To #23: Re the Mayoress not playing golf. Only difference between her and Obama is that she doesn’t have a putter to stroke and balls to play with.

This ghetto mayor needs to do serious prison time for not only enabling the rioters but holding an entire stadium of law abiders hostage. That’s kidnapping.

She’s black and surrounded by blacks. Let’s see how well they manage the situation.

More “white flight” is what I see in Baltimore’s future. Sadly, there are a lot of good whites (and I’ll add, ... good blacks) that want to leave but cannot afford to do so.

That statement alone, as much as she tries to backpedal, still makes her culpable. As a minimum she should resign. Ideally she should be criminally charged.
