Round in the Chamber?

My response was, “Always carry one in the chamber, not having one in does not compute with me.” My reason for saying this is easy, that is how I train. SFC Scarborough responded by stating that he does not feel safe with a round in the chamber, but that is how he trains. Now my thoughts are really trying to make sense of this, but then again, training prepares you for a serious encounter… right?

Don’t feel bad I don’t carry either. Because where I live I don’t need to. If I did I would, and it would be a short barreled 1911.

I admit that I have two gears, quiet and argumentative, but the tendency of many to pounce is disturbing. Doesn’t conservatism have enough battles to fight?

Again, I’m not opposed to anyone legally carrying a firearm if they feel the need. I just do not feel the need.

Your post is appreciated.

So you are a victim now?

What are you doing on this thread about whether to carry with a round chambered or not?

This is how you jumped on the thread at post 10.

Preparation means not putting yourself in that situation.

Never heard of Car Jacking or Home Invasion I guess.

Yeah, you keep saying that.

You got on the thread as a nooby troll, and look at the sign up name you chose for yourself.

Another sign of a troll.

What are you doing on this thread about whether to carry with a round chambered or not?

I agree with you, for the most part. I guess having carried guns for so long has me a touch jaded.
I really do encourage anyone able to lawfully carry a firearm, no matter weapon condition. In time most folks, after becoming accustomed and proficient, would most likely decide to carry hot.
And deep down I think my comment was partially intended to provoke those less skilled to up their training schedule and therefore their proficiency.

As Regal says, even his dad who is deceased I believe, would be happy with the cross dressing event.

“”Including my father who as a Marine was confident enough in himself that this would not have bothered him at all. Not everything is an insult, or an affront.””

“52 years and have yet to be in a situation where anything other than smarts...”

Oh, the “yet” word. 58 years and have yet be in a situation where I needed to draw my weapon, because I’m so smart and strong too, not to mention handsome and charming. That doesn’t make me want to leave it at home.

A few questions to ponder.

Who posts to a serious thread about gun safety, on a site that is decidedly conservative and pro-2nd Amendment:   No need to carry a firearm. ?

Who insults those that question trollish behavior with:   Look into that Midol thing. ?

Who believes THIS:   I was in Ohio last year this time and a minor league baseball team did it. Had a guy try to run bases in heels. No big deal. Nothing sexual, or deviant about it. Nothing to see here. ?

Incremental dumbing down, deviancy, emasculation, erosion of rights and independence are hallmarks of liberal rot. Humbly submitted for your consideration.

Most police departments use Glocks and they all carry their Glock with one in the pipe.

And stories of cops 'accidentally' discharging their pistols aren't exactly rare.

Their mistake is pulling the trigger, it isn’t from the gun firing on it’s own.

Regardless of what your personal reasons might be for your original post, what interesting individual and group psychology you've stumbled into!

Rather fascinating and very educational how and what things from what you've posted get picked up, changed and thrown back.

Given the political season we're just now entering and how the "discussions" in such seasons usually play out and the often bitter aftertaste tends to linger long after them, the lessons demonstrated here are timely and should be helpful.

I'm still working out my own comfort zone on the original topic and stopped on the thread for my own understanding, but the diversion you have sparked has been unexpectedly educational.

“No need to carry a firearm”

Combining your non sequitur with the topic .... the Israelis generally feel a need to carry but I believe their military policy is to leave the chamber empty—so they don’t accidentally blow their own or someone else’s damned foot off.
“Israeli carry” involves drawing the firearm while racking the slide. Makes sense to me.
Unless I’m in a situation where I consciously chamber a round, my gun is safe.
Lord, save us from noobs and ‘pistoleros’.

I agree. And if you want to ever stump a condition 1 type,,, ask them to explain why the 1911 has an external hammer.

“Most self defense cases with firearms are not Trayvon/Zimmerman situations where one gets jumped and pummeled”

Even that case gave him wonderful opportunities to chamber a round when he exited the car, saw a suspicious person, etc.
He was engaged with the scary guy several minutes before that fist fight.

“Unless I’m in a situation where I consciously chamber a round, my gun is safe.”

I always carry with a round in the chamber, and my gun is safe.

I felt more comfortable getting a striker-fired pistol with a manual safety, in addition to the trigger safety and striker-block safety. I know that many here don’t like manual safeties on striker pistols, but I do, and I can flip off the safety long before I get the gun on target.

At first, until I felt I had practiced enough to gain motion memory, I carried with an empty chamber, but now I never do.

I’m not a pistoleros, and I’ll never be able to shoot as well as Raylan Givens, but I’m good enough to carry with one in the pipe.

Handguns? Ready to rock n roll, rounds chambered. Holsters for all, requirements for any Glock anyway...

Rifles? Mags inserted, chambers empty. Also, car gun, Kel-Tec Sub2000 when folded can’t have round in chamber: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I979gQaLvn4
