Females In Ranger School Hack Off Hair To Maintain Equality
Daily Caller ^ | 4/25/15 | Jonah Bennett

To assuage fears that different standards will apply to men and women in Ranger School, women have been required to sport short haircuts, as well.

“The standard for the Ranger course is for students to have the shortest haircut authorized by AR 670-1,” Col. William Butler, deputy commandant of the U.S. Army Infantry School, told Army Times.

The idea is to maintain strict standards of hygiene. Short hair makes it much easier to spot ticks. Women are not allowed to have hair extending more than one inch from the scalp. If there are any bangs, they may not fall below the eyebrows.

Nineteen women were brought into the two-month long Ranger School on Monday for the first time ever, in an attempt to answer the larger question of whether combat occupations can be opened up to women in the military. As of Thursday, just 8 of 19 women have managed to survive the Ranger Assessment Phase (RAP) and will continue on in the course. For the first day of RAP, students needed to complete 49 push-ups in two minutes, a five-mile run in 40 minutes, and six strict chin-ups, among other things.

On Thursday, the last day, students had to hike for 12-miles with a 35-pound pack, a rifle, and a vest.

During the planning process, officials have taken extra steps to ensure the training runs smoothly, even updating the packing list requirements to include certain items for the women, such as sports bras, tampons, and a female urinary diversion device, which allows women to urinate while standing.

According to the Pentagon, all jobs have to be opened to women by January, or else the military needs to request waivers from Congress to keep certain jobs closed.

Defense Secretary Ashton Carter was noncommittal this week when asked about his predictions about performance, answering that “maybe” all jobs will be opened. However, Carter seemed to think that female performance will be sufficient enough to open up most jobs.

Those standards seem like girly standards.

49 pushups?

Carry a 35 pound pack and a load out with weapon? 12 miles?

Gimme a break...

“and a female urinary diversion device, which allows women to urinate while standing.”

Oh, for crying out loud.

IMO, this should not be about whether they are physically able to handle the training... Doing pushups, running, etc have nothing at all to do with the rigors of actual combat...
Especially Special Ops combat...This is not something you just walk away from if you do not meet expectations like training workouts...You don’t walk away...You are carried away in a black body bag and or so are your teammates...

Men have a instinctual trait to “protect” females...This instinct could possibly divert the operators full attention away from the mission even subconsciencely...

just thought the same.
I can do that now and I’m much older and for a supposed special forces this is pathetic.

I do 3 sets of 60 push ups every day and run 5 k in less than 23 minutes.

When I was in the military we would have laughed that this test they have today.

which allows women to urinate while standing.
= = = = = = ==
That will make a large difference....what about when their ‘guts’ are wrenching out and their feet start bleeding etc....

My grandson is going in the Navy - they are making him wait till Nov, guess they are pretty well filled up.

I wont really discourage him BUT I am not real happy with the ‘condition’ of the Military AND the leaders.

He is bound cause he is 20 but I am really not all that thrilled.

But I really don’t want to discourage him either, it is a ‘family’ tradition.........

A few will pass, 100% guaranteed. They will fail out a few, “proving” that the program is valid, then the others will graduate.
But there is zero chance that the current army brass will allow all of them to wash out.

Reminds me of a behavioral science course I took in college called “Territoriality, Aggressiveness and Sex.”

You’d think humans would be past all that — but I suppose all it would take is for one guy in the platoon to be unable to control his animalistic instinct to seek Alpha male status.

It has nothing to do with sex...What I was referring to is the instinctual notion that men have have had forever to keep the female out of harm’s way...

It don’t matter how many pushups or how fast or far they run...What matters is when the rubber meets the road in an actual CQC situation and blood is splattered everywhere and you can’t hear a damn thing for the firefight...There is chaos it is happening so damn fast, you can’t think...You react...If the instinctual protection thing kicks in, you could cause yourself and your teammates problems because you are not doing the task because you have started worrying about the female...It is natural!!!

I spent 7 years in Special Operations and I would NEVER have wanted a female on any of the missions I was a part of...
Two tours in Vietnam with very small units...

I’m sorry...I am TOTALLY AGAINST any females in Special Operations...
If they want to join infantry units of larger bodies of troops, OK...But NOT small elite units...PERIOD...

I’ve spent a fair amount of time lately with my niece’s boyfriend, who is ending a Marine enlistment, starting school in the Fall. Light infantryman. 240 MG gunner. One of those guys at the pointy tip of the spear.

He carried more than 35# of ammo, forget the MG, body armor, and other gear.

I’m not saying you wouldn’t have started worrying about the female. I’m just saying its not for the reason you think it is.

Carry a 35 pound pack and a load out with weapon? 12 miles?

Try a full load out, rifle and ammo on a 50 mile forced march.

But that's old Corps.
