Christian Bakery Ordered To Pay $135,000 To Lesbian Couple
The trials and tribulations for Sweet Cakes By Melissa continue. You may recall that this is the Oregon bakery that refused to bake a cake for a lesbian couples wedding. Since then, theyve been on the receiving end of protests, hit piece articles, and a lawsuit.
The Oregonian reports:
The lesbian couple turned away by a Gresham bakery that refused to make them a wedding cake for religious reasons should receive $135,000 in damages for their emotional suffering, a state hearings officer says.
Rachel Bowman-Cryer should collect $75,000 and her wife, Laurel Bowman-Cryer, $60,000 from the owners of Sweet Cakes by Melissa, an administrative law judge for the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries said in a proposed order released Friday, April 24.
This is a proposed order and we view this matter as continuing to be active litigation, Paul Thompson, a lawyer for the Bowman-Cryers, said.
Anna Harmon, one of three attorneys representing Aaron and Melissa Klein, said, Its a shocking result and it shows the states relentless campaign to punish Oregonians who live and work according to their faith.
The important thing to realize is this, she added, This is real money that Aaron and Melissa are going to have to pay that otherwise would be used to pay their mortgage and feed their kids.
The lesbian couple claimed they were mentally raped after the bakery would not sell them a wedding cake.
A GoFundMe page was set up to help the Klein family at http://www.gofundme.com/su4cxqe6 .
But the GoFundMe page is no longer active.
The page went dark this morning. The fundraising page had raised over $66,000 before it was taken down.
The Sweet Cakes Facebook page posted this with a link to a different fundraising page:
The gofundme account that was set up to help our family was shut down by the administrators of gofundme because they claimed it was raising money for an illegal purpose. We have told gofundme that the money is simply going to be used to help our family, and there is no legitimate breach of their terms and conditions. We are working to get the account reinstated.
However, in the mean time, if you would like to donate, you can do so here: http://www.samaritanspurse.org/ /christian-couple-faces-13 /
For all of you who gave to the gofundme account before it was shut down, we so appreciate your love and generosity. Gofundme has told us that we will still receive those funds.
Why are people like Rush and others not helping the Kleins out? What we need is a boycott, or somebody flying out to Oregon who can draw attention to this.
You’re right. The logic that the funds were for something illegal but yet the Klein’s are (hopefully) going to get this “illegal money” doesn’t wash. This was going to be another embarrassing scenario to the LGBT facists like Memories Pizza was. They couldn’t have that.
It’s a mistake to raise money for them at this time. It will only go to the lezzies to pay the judgment. Bankrupt the judgment first. Then organize a fund raiser.
I want to know if the pair who sued are friends with the sweet shop owners who pulled the trigger on the Go Fund Me page. It’s just too close to be coincidental.
It’s time for Christians to become Old Testament warriors and to stop turning the other cheek. As the Methodist minister Milus “Bushwhacker” Johnston declared upon leaving his pulpit to lead a band of Confederate guerrillas, “Boys, I have come to the conclusion that God never yet made a man to be slobbered on by dogs!”
Clearly gofu$*me is populated by anti religious bigots. It should be avoided, denounced and folks should inform their friends and families of the extent of the religious bigotry that is at the core of that company. If there is another option for their services, use it.
This case has been in the news for a long time. Your bizarre conspiratorial story is sad. This website used to attract and retain quality, clear thinking and interesting people. It is disappointing at best those this website now attracts.
And a look at your posts tells me everything about you I need to know.
Great. I was going to post that question - so thanks for answering.
I donated last night - before GoFund shut it down, and I was wondering whether I needed to go after GoFund to get my money back, or to cancel the credit card charge. I'm glad to hear that the money will be going to the Kleins. It was over $110k when I looked at the numbers (probably a half hour before GoFund pulled the fundraising). I'm also glad to hear that Samaritan's Purse is going to carry the torch for these growing Christian persecution stories. I grant that the persecutions in America are nothing compared to those in other Countries - but it is still tough to get your businesses ruined, and accounts bankrupted by the morally corrupt judges and government officials in America.
Anyone know if Sweet Cakes has a website and email? We could like to buy 2 cakes and donate them to either a Christian Foster Program or to a Abused women’s center...
Rachel can NOT have a wife! Rachel is a female, so that mean she would be a wife to a man if she was normal.
The pendulum will swing back, soon.
I think this is it (how are you going to order a cake, or how are they going to send it?):

You either don't believe the GoFundMe site couldn't arrive at this decision on its own or that a bakery would willingly hire a lawyer and go out of business in a conspiracy with lesbians?
Please, help us understand the insanity you espouse.
Look up your Salvation draweth nigh
Lisa Watson, of Cupcake Jones, started her own campaign to contact GoFundMe and report the campaign as being in violation of their terms of service. Watsons own post on Facebook stated, this business has been found GUILTY OF DISCRIMINATION and is being allowed to fundraise to pay their penalty. The gofundme terms of service address hate speech, bigotry, criminal activity, and sexism among other things in their campaign The amount of money they have raised in a matter of a few hours by thousands of anonymous cowards is disgusting.
Late on Friday GoFundMe stopped the Sweet Cakes campaign. Via GoFundMe: "After careful review by our team, we have found the "Support Sweet Cakes By Melissa" campaign to be in violation of our Terms and Conditions. The money raised thus far will still be made available for withdrawal. While a different campaign was recently permitted for a pizzeria in Indiana, no laws were violated and the campaign remained live. However, the subjects of the "Support Sweet Cakes By Melissa" campaign have been formally charged by local authorities and found to be in violation of Oregon state law concerning discriminatory acts. Accordingly, the campaign has been disabled."
This story is still shocking to me. I can’t believe things like this can happen in a free country.
