At New York Reception, Ted Cruz Is Said to Strike Different Tone Toward Gays

[Admin note] Title and text changed at source. New title: "Ted Cruz Is Guest of Two Gay Businessmen"
Senator Ted Cruz, the Republican presidential candidate, has positioned himself as a strong opponent to same-sex marriage, urging pastors nationwide to preach in support of marriage as an institution between a man and a woman, which he said was “ordained by God.”

But on Wednesday night, at a reception for him at the Manhattan apartment of two prominent gay hoteliers, the Texas senator struck quite a different tone.

During the gathering, according to two attendees, Mr. Cruz said he would have no problem if one of his daughters was gay. He did not mention his opposition to same-sex marriage, saying only that marriage is an issue that should be left to the states.

The dinner and “fireside chat” for about a dozen people with Mr. Cruz and his wife, Heidi, was at the Central Park South penthouse of Mati Weiderpass and Ian Reisner, longtime business partners who were once a couple and who have been pioneers in the gay hospitality industry.

“Ted Cruz said, ‘If one of my daughters was gay, I would love them just as much,’” recalled Mr. Reisner, a same-sex marriage proponent who described himself as simply an attendee at Mr. Weiderpass’s event.

Mr. Reisner and Kalman Sporn, who advises Mr. Cruz’s Middle East team and served as the moderator for the evening, said that the senator told the group that marriage should be left up to the states.

He did not bring up his own opposition to same-sex marriage during the evening, which focused mainly on foreign policy.

An aide to Mr. Cruz, reached on Thursday, reiterated that the senator is opposed to same-sex marriage.

Mr. Cruz has honed his reputation as a grassroots firebrand, who was strongly supportive of the Indiana religious freedom law that was recently blasted as discriminatory by gay rights activists. [snip]

Cruz is NOT waging a war on homosexuals.

Rather he is fighting back against the war being waged on common sense and traditional marriage.

I was just postulating. The point is that the MSM is trying to make Cruz look like the rest of the flip-floppers because that's all they have. Cruz has made an unwavering stand on many issues and hasn't backed down to the pc crowd. They're trying to make it look like that here.

[[Dude, he said he would love her even if she was gay; same with me if my daughter said the same thing.]]

Yes, the quotes RE around that, but it is also said by the article, without actual quotes, that he said he would have no problem if she were gay which is concerning IF infact he did say this- but it’s hard to tell if he did or not because they didn’t put that claim in direct quotes, and it could just be a liberal interpretation of what he actually said- in which case the NYT is being intentionally deceitful by putting words in his mouth

The author is an idiot, this is not a different tone.

Ted Cruz said, ‘If one of my daughters was gay, I would love them just as much,’

Love the sinner, hate the sin

Yes I realize that is what they are trying to do and wil lcontinue trying to do- but it’s still a bit concerning IF He actually did say he -had no problem if...- but the article is not clear whether that was a direct quote- they CLAIM it was a quote-

It helps when sarcasm actually is sarcastic. /sarc

Not everyone has the same awareness of bad sarcasm as everyone else.

Methinks he was being sarcastic and “dolts” refers to the reporters trying to stir up shite. But I could be wrong.

Liberals either can’t or won’t understand that just because conservatives oppose gay marriage doesn’t mean they hate gays or want them locked up. Its willful ignorance.

You can love a family member but disagree with how they live and how they vote.

Typical tactic of the far Left/NYT -- when they really, really want to hurt someone -- especially a conservative -- they call you the worst thing they can think of: "You're a homosexual" or "You like homosexuals" (the implication being maybe deep down inside you are one).

How insulting, how degrading is the NYT ... to homosexuals!

It's clear that Ted Cruz has the Left not just shaking -- but quaking in their fuzzy slippers.

Don't need to pick fights on FR. Plenty always going on.

Now, we all understand you were being sarcastic in a personal and very obscure way...dolts. /sarc

I agree. I would like to know exactly what he said too. Call ma paranoid, but I am coming to believe that all politicans, to play in the national leagues, are getting the idea that they must soft-pedal or say one thing to one audience and another to another audience, to get the big money required in order to run. I also am questioning why he would be at a function hosted by homosexuals.

Yes-”I would still love my daughter” is nothing like “I would have no problem with”, especially when the issue is being forced into court to break down the traditional and established meaning of marriage, and what that means to an entire society.
