Dr. Warren Weinstein, an American aid worker held hostage by al Qaeda, was accidentally killed in a U.S. counter-terrorism operation, as was an Italian hostage, Giovanni Lo Porto, and another American who was an al Qaeda leader, the White House announced on Thursday. Officials also announced that a separate operation killed Adam Gadahn, another American who became a prominent al Qaeda member.
The White House said it was unaware the four were present at the sites. President Obama was set to make a statement after 10 a.m. ET.
"The operation targeted an al-Qa'ida-associated compound, where we had no reason to believe either hostage was present, located in the border region of Afghanistan and Pakistan. No words can fully express our regret over this terrible tragedy," the White House said in a statement.
"The President directed that the information being shared today, which was properly classified until now, be declassified and shared with the American people. He takes full responsibility for these operations and believes it is important to provide the American people with as much information as possible about our counterterrorism operations, particularly when they take the lives of fellow citizens.
"The uniquely tragic nature of the operation that resulted in the deaths of two innocent hostages is something we will do our utmost to ensure is not repeated. To this end, although the operation was lawful and conducted consistent with our counterterrorism policies, we are conducting a thorough independent review to understand fully what happened and how we can prevent this type of tragic incident in the future."

I met Warren when he was a Associate Professor in the Pol Sci Dept at the State University of NY College at Oswego. A finer man you will never ever meet. He was superbly intelligent, a master of languages, a thorough scholar and mentor, a true friend and one of the funniest men I have ever met. Anyone who can converse with the head of the Department in Chinese, another member in Afrikaans, and still be as down to earth as anyone is one for the ages. Sadly, he is now as well. Rest in Peace my Friend.
Since all these killings were reported by the Grand Kenyan to be accidental, not the intended targets, wouldn’t you think there’d be some small mention of just what the bleep the real target(s) were? And how is it that only hostages were killed at the first place? I guess the Gannies are so freekin’ good at what they do that hostages guard themselves. Sounds like a bunch of burgdahl?
I saw her report that story. Had a Republican candidate been involved in something shady like this, it would only have taken the media about 4 minutes, instead of 4 days, to jump on this story.
That “commercially viable” part is not necessarily a concern for these humpers. They might be supplying brides to asshats or maybe just plain girlfriends to all parts of Asia Minor. What we need is a sample page from their mail order catalog to see if they’re selling pure breds or stock trailer trash. Or maybe ol Dad was a chest man and just enjoys pulling jugs?
And it’s been that way for centuries. My 9th Great Grandaddy Bradford had to hang a young genius about 1620 because he wouldn’t leave the neighbor’s mare and goat alone? Just keeping the neighborhood cleaned up. A missile wound have made his job easier I guess.
I am sorry for the loss of the hostages. As John and Ken would say: Fat Adam Gadahn got what was coming to him!

BTW. They “accidentally” took out Gadahn. He wasn’t even their target at the time.
He was not a dumb azz as you refer to my Friend. He had spent years there assisting the people of that country in making better lives for themselves as he helped me be a much better scholar. I mourn his passing and the world should too.

Well Pearlman was a Judas goat, but I'm guessing his indoctrination / brainwashing had more to do with his attendance at the Islamic Center on State College street in Anaheim than it did with farming goats.
