Ted Cruz Joked About Hymens While On The College Debate Circuit

The New York Times dug up some priceless anecdotes from Sen. Ted Cruz's (R-TX) college debating career in a story published Tuesday, from a poorly received joke about regenerating hymen to his affinity for the "Les Misérables" soundtrack.

The newspaper spoke with several of Cruz's rival debaters who said that the presidential candidate was a powerful speaker that could be undercut by humor. He would "unravel" when competitors deployed humor against him, according to former Yale debater Austan Goolsbee (an economist who later served on President Obama's cabinet).

Cruz also fared poorly when he made jokes himself. From the Times report:

Mr. Cruz’s own attempts at humor sometimes missed the mark. In one debate, he proposed a method to detect infidelity, in which God should “give women a hymen that grows back every time she has intercourse with a different guy, because that will be a ‘visible sign’ of the breach of trust,” according to a recollection by David Kennedy published in a Harvard debate team reunion booklet in 2001.

Mr. Kennedy’s debate partner mocked Mr. Cruz’s knowledge of the subject matter by contorting herself to see how the anatomy in question could be “visible,” according to the booklet.

In another debate against Amherst College, the opposing team argued that Ricky Ricardo of "I Love Lucy" fame should have let Lucille Ball's character work. Cruz responded “Well, guess what, I’m Cuban! And no self-respecting Cuban man of the era would let his wife work," according to the Times.

If only the media spent 1/1,000,000th of the time investigating Zer0, that they’re going to trying to destroy Cruz - this country might not be in the shape it’s in.

Well done, New York Times! Clap, clap, clappity, clap.

Say, how's that investigation coming along on Baraq Obola's college writings and whatnot?

So we now know one more thing about Cruz’s college years than we do about Obama’s.

We will know the tiniest detail of Cruz’s life, especially if it can by portrayed negatively. Yet most of Obama’s past remains a complete mystery.

Pass the smelling salts. I'm getting the vapors.

This is almost as bad as selling a Uranium mine to the Russians in exchange for a campaign contribution.

I guess we know who NY Pravda fears.

Viva the glorious Tea Party Revolution! Let us go forth and fulfill our 2-year plan to elect Ted Cruz and save the Homeland!

The article in the NYT did not come off as a hit piece. It had a lot of positive in it. It dealt with Cruz's college career as a debater in a similar vane that they would write about another politician's football days. I guess it would be easier to write about Cruz's college days than Obama’s for one simple reason, Cruz actually did things. Tough to write an article about someone who did nothing except hang out. If anyone bothered to read the article, the only negative was about Cruz's lack of humor and or deficiency in the use of humor in his presentations. To be honest, that observation I have noticed myself way before this article, and it worries me in terms of the general election. A little honest self criticism is a good thing. If Cruz did not have this hole in his swing, he would have easy sailing. Another observation is that article has generated more knee jerking on both Right and Left than the Rockettes over the Christmas holidays.

Thinking liberals feeling shame????

Two problems with that:

Liberals don’t think.

Liberals are incapable of shame.

Someone has not been paying attention, Cruz is unmatched by anyone in handling the media and BS especially from the Rino’s.

The way Walker has been handling criticism is by backtracking, suddenly changing his mind and making new proposals, because he thinks it is politically expedient to do so.
