Author: Matt K. Lewis:

March 16, 2015 -- My wife has accepted a role consulting for RickPAC — the leadership PAC affiliated with former Texas Gov. Rick Perry. Additionally, as I have previously disclosed, she formerly consulted for Ted Cruz’s 2012 senate campaign.

Such public disclosures are necessary for the sake of transparency, and they are a small price to pay for being married to such a remarkably talented woman.

This will not change how I cover the 2016 race. As always, I will call ‘em like I see ‘em."

Chinese investors with lots of money are not here to work in a factory or pick tomatoes.

CW, I favor Cruz. However, the 1st time I heard Gov. Walker, was the Iowa video. He was great. He has an exceptional record. I thought that he might be a better messenger that Sen. Cruz, because Gov. Walker seems less “severe”.

But, I just don’t understand the politics. There’s nothing wrong with his support of Chinese visas. But, what compelled him to go on Beck and say we have to curb legal immigration to protect American workers— when, he knew his record would argue the opposite?

He didn’t have to say it- his immigration stance would have been just as effective if he had left it at the undocumented.

As governor of Wisconsin, Scott Walker was a supporter of a company that helps wealthy Chinese citizens immigrate to the the United States. This revelation stands in contrast to his recent statement that legal immigration policy should be based on “protecting American workers and American wages.”

What "contrast" - are the wealthy Chinese going to take a lower wage to do my job?

As you have noticed, what he said is being magnified one way by his opponents in the primary and by his opponents on the Left - to make him appear this way or that - extreme.

A governor is not in charge of immigration and In a state like Wisc it isn’t much of a problem. I don’t suppose it was on his front burner.

The EB-5 visa provides a method of obtaining a green card for foreign nationals who invest money in the United States.[1] To obtain the visa, individuals must invest $1,000,000 (or at least $500,000 in a Targeted Employment Area - high unemployment or rural area), creating or preserving at least 10 jobs for U.S. workers excluding the investor and their immediate family.[1] Initially, under the first EB-5 program, the foreign investor was required to create an entirely new commercial enterprise; however, under the Pilot Program investments can be made directly in a job-generating commercial enterprise (new, or existing - "Troubled Business"[2]),

The HB5 visa requires an investment in the US of a substantial amount of money in order to create American jobs.

Senator Cruz backed this same plan in his amendment to the comprehensive immigration act in 2013.

I always thought we WANTED rich immigrants, as opposed to poverty-stricken Latino children. So what’s not to like about a wealthy Chinese investor who hopes to make the USA his permanent home and who is properly vetted?

The US benefits from having more smart, well educated people who will create new companies and jobs here.

We do not benefit from having more unskilled, low IQ people who will pay less in taxes than they consume over their lifetimes.

It’s a pretty good idea to require immigrants to invest large sums of money in the US. Maybe we should hack off a 200K slots from the existing 1.3m a year legal immigration quota, and replace those slots with the EB-5.

Legal (i.e. green card with a path to citizenship) immigration is 1.3m slots a year. The EB-5 is 10K slots. Walker also said that he changed his mind after visiting at border states. EB-5 migrants don't cross the Mexican border with the assistance of coyotes. And they don't compete with American workers - they hire them.

Precisely. Letting a few thousand wealthy foreigners in with strings attached to how they use their money is not equivalent to allowing a flood of near-feral illegals through the borders. And Walker didn’t sell those visas, which is precisely what Hill and Bill would do (and probably did).

Matt Lewis is a big open borders pimp.

Lewis also said there was no rule about bashing Fox, after his arch nemesis Mickey Kaus got fired.

No you’re right, they’re legal. So why is Governor Walker saying we should curb legal immigration?

And there is this ... “In fairness, most governors support policies like these — because they want wealthy foreigners to invest in their state.”

Uggh. Why not state that UPFRONT, then spew his opinion afterwards. I, and most everyone one else, don’t have a huge problem with wealthy business owners who operate businesses which provide jobs for Americans. So why should we be up in arms over a small amount of well qualified legal immigrants who do so - from the moment they get here? Legal, wealthy, job creators are not bogey men. How many of that type have we seen in the news arrested for murder, rape, burglary, or identity theft?

Because legal immigration is 1.3m a year. Cutting that down to zero while keeping the EB-5 intact is consistent with curbing legal immigration. Just as cutting capital gains taxes while leaving earned income tax rates unchanged is consistent with cutting taxes.

To put American workers first. Adding a new supply of foreign capital (EB-5) while cutting down on the new supply of foreign labor (no strings attached legal immigration) does put American workers first.

“Cutting legal immigration down to zero.” Okay- if that’s where you and Gov. Walker want to be.

And, I’m saying, I don’t know why he asserted that position- because he will back pedal out of it in a matter of days.
