That's part of it. We have the same experience. My wife gets a craving for McDonald's once in a while. I go along. We always talk about how we could have gotten more and better food for the same price or less at several local restaurants. I also think the quality has declined. I like a Big Mac once in a while. The last time I got one I was served two flat, dry, gray patties. That's kind of the way they have been recently. I don't remember that years ago.
uuurrp...
I think it's the overpriced food, stupid.
Ewww. I tried that once and knew immediately why McDonalds kept it off the full-time menu.
They should bring back the old gang. That new box mascot is one of the most idiotic ideas ever.
I think Steve Martin was right...
“I have a theory about McDonalds, that is, everything they make is all one thing, and in the back they have this big vat full of this stuff, these little molds combining, like SPLURT Hamburger! SPLURT Malt! SPLURT Paper box! SPLURT Heres your change!”

Stop making food for People that will never eat a McDonald’s , D’oh
Wendy’s is far far better than McDs in every way. Every chain should study Chik Fil e. Great employees reasonable prices and great food.
There is a great cartoon, called Logorama, which features a city built of corporate logos, with Ronald McDonald as the villain. NSFW for some salty language and violence.

Yep, you can’t charge premium burger prices for the crap they serve, it’s fast food. Either increase quality and taste dramatically or cut the prices to match food quality. People generally know what they are going to get walking in the door of a McDonald’s and they are not going to pay the high prices for the low quality food.
Here’s a thought, cut the menu options dramatically and go back to being a burger and milk shake place where you started this sleigh ride and focus on the remaining items having quality taste and being reasonably priced.
Exactly, it used to be ADVERTISED AS a burger, fries and soda and change back from your dollar. In other words it was affordable, a bargain.
Now it’s downright expensive with tons of competition for better food at similar prices - anyone can figure out McDee’s is overpriced.

...
That was my last experience at McDonald’s which was over twenty years ago.
Every chain should study Chik Fil A.
Agree. That reminds me. Chik fil A has the best shakes!
Keep the feral street savages out. That’d help.

I had the same theory back in 1972 regarding my college cafeteria food, namely, they had these 55 gallon barrels of stuff called “filler” from which all the food was made.
“Lots even make you ask for the little millionth of a gram pepper packet thingies.”
takes about 20-30 of those things for me because I like a lot of pepper too.
I developed a technique for tearing off the tops of those things 10 at a time: I call it “Ten With One Blow”.
I use to drop in McDonalds every now and then for a snack. I’d get a medium fries with a small Dr. Pepper. The fries were the best especially if you were fortunate enough to get a fresh, piping hot batch right out of the frier but they changed something and they turned nasty.
Never get the fries anymore but I do like the McRib on occasion, I know what it is, not gourmet, preprocessed pork patty, messy but hits the spot occasionally when it’s in season, guilty pleasure I guess. If only they could go back to the good fries I’d be happy. Also, the breakfast stuff is their best, not cheap but tasty and quick when you’re on the go.
