The state House defeated a resolution Tuesday that would have added Oklahoma to the list of states petitioning Congress for a convention to alter the U.S. Constitution.
Senate Joint Resolution 4, which failed 42-56, was intended to have the state participate in a convention that may propose amendments to the United States Constitution that impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, and limit the term of office for its officials and members of Congress.
Rep. Gary Banz, R-Midwest City, said the imperative to balance the federal budget outweighs the numerous questions surrounding such a convention, which is permitted under Article 5 of the Constitution.
This is perhaps one of the most significant votes you will take in the time you are here, he said. The opposition to this is focused heavily on the how questions at the expense of why we are using Article V of the Constitution to address one of the biggest problems we face as a nation. When you are knee deep in alligators its hard to remember your original purpose was to drain the swamp.
Rep. Mike Ritze, R-Broken Arrow, said a convention of states could alter the Constitution in dangerous ways. Members, we are venturing on grounds that are uncertain, he said. There are many who believe this would be a runaway convention.
The U.S. Constitution requires petitions from two-thirds of the states, or 34 of the 50, to call an Article 5 convention. About 25 have done so.

I gues that leaves Oklahoma in the hands of Oklahomans! What a novel idea ... :-) ...
In the hands of FedGov more like it.
Cowardly words? Lol. May your chains rest lightly, and may posterity forget you were our countryman. You'll get exactly what you deserve out of this, and it has nothing to do with liberty. Just wait. You'll see.
[ Frankly it WILL be a runaway convention. All sorts of absurd and obnoxious amendments will be proposed and debated.
But, we are running out of options. And time. ]
They can propose ANYTHING, but 3/4 of the states have to RATIFY it to become an actual part of the constitution.
1. elect more republicans, fail
2. State nullification, barely works
3. Article V CoS, in progress
4. Mutual state sepration, ( if 1-3 fail)
5. Civil War (if 4 fails )
This is the order of things.
You like the COS, but others have given reasoned critiques of it. No one on FR has ever attempted to give me reasoned responses to my critique. They always just call me stupid. Okay, I might be stupid. After all, I am from Oklahoma. The retort might be way over my head, but at least try to school me.
I think the convention of states, as proven by this vote, is too unwieldy a process to stake our liberty on.
Its long: while were trying to convince purple states like Minnesota, and overcome stupid logic like Ritzes, the left becomes more entrenched.
Its uncertain: Will we ever be able to overcome all the lefts propaganda outlets (schools, media, entertainment, etc.) enough to get enough states? I think the answer is clearly no.
Its hoped for outcome is dependent on recognition by the very powers it hopes to circumvent: I know people say the supreme court cant nullify it and congress cant do anything against it, but they will. To think they wont is so naive that I just dont know what to say. The very reason were talking about this is because the Feds are unmoored from the constitution, dictatorial, and out of control.
Three real-world, non-theoretical objections. School me.
Good. This would be a disaster of unparalleled proportions.
I’m not in his district, but I’ve met him (he’s close by) and I don’t think you’re going to find him replaced as he’s well-respected! I would vote for him if I could.
“Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”
John Adams
Perhaps not. Yet he’s in the pack nonetheless.
Oklahoma is handling that one, too ... :-) ... which the citizens of the State of Oklahoma agree with.
In a dead heat with Val and Bare.
Nothing but queers and steers.....
he may be a fine guy and you too FRiend. we simply disagree and the survival of my family is riding on this disagreement. just because you’re conservative means nothing if you’re un-teachable. he needs to go. in 18th and 19th century America, most of the politicans were conservative in both south and north. that didn’t prevent the civil war. there’s always evil and good to make a choice between.
i have some close friends in ok i’ll be talking to about mr ritze.
LOL ... you’ve got the wrong state ... :-) ...
You make it sound like it will be another Woodstock or something. This will not be like a party nominating convention for President.
I don't think that "every Lefty activist" will show up. The states will have a process for selecting their delegations to the proposing convention. I would expect there to be just a handful of thoughtful people per state in attendance, perhaps delegations of 5 to 7 people per state. No more.
I'd like to hear from others on what they think the limits on state delegations should be.

You don’t want a convention of states with Obama and his Criminals around
He has strong support in his district and also outside his district. He tried to get Senator Inhofe to put up a challenge to the Electoral College vote in 2008 over Obama. He was instrumental in the Ten Commandments bring installed at the State Capitol. He also put up the bill to get a requirement in Oklahoma that a certified birth certificate would be required for Presidential elections, and he was instrumental in getting the “No Sharia Law” amendment passed ... all of which I supported. You’re not going to get Oklahomans to dump Ritze ... :-) ...
