Dramatic police dash cam footage, provided by New Yorks Fox affiliate WPIX, caught the recent rescue of a New Jersey woman getting pulled to safety out of her overturned convertible just in time.
Kinnelon Police Officers Mark Ehrenberg and Ricky Ferriola arrived at the crash scene where they saw the 2006 Toyota Solara convertible toppled over with smoke fuming out, while forty-five-year-old Dawn Milosky, remained unconscious and pinned inside.
The officers rushed to Miloskys aid, and can be heard on the tape yelling:
Can you hear me?
Despite their attempts, there was no response. After cutting through the seat belt, they managed to drag Miloskys limp body to safety, then gave her CPR while hooking her up to a defibrillator.
Less than a minute after the rescue, the vehicle exploded, according to WPIX News.
When asked why the police department wanted the public to see this dramatic video, an officer responded matter-of-factly:
If it wasnt for the citizen interaction by calling the police of an erratic driver, this individual who was driving it would have been a fatal motor vehicle accident.
Milosky has since been charged with a DWI.
Cool. :)
And yet to some on FR, cops are evil incarnate.
In a welcome change, the addition of police did NOT make things worse.
It made things better.
Andy & Barney bump.
I’ve always carried a pocket knife since I was about seven years old. The one I carry now has a blade that includes a fish-toothed portion near the base made just for cutting through seatbelts. I haven’t had to use it for that yet, only on a nylon tie-down strap one time but it works. Good item to carry with you.
Yeah. I’ve got one like it.
Raised eyebrows when I loaned it to a colleague to open a box a few days ago.
I just shrugged and said ‘ya never know when yer gonna need to cut through a seat belt...’
Vehicle didn’t explode, per science and again divorced from reality.
It did explode in flames, maybe.
That’s a nice knife too...
LOL
Ah, the old "if you say something about a bad cop you hate all cops" hyperbole.
Wear it proud!
An appropriate knife and also a small hammer to break glass should be within reach of the driver... typically in the center console. One other thing I always have on my keychain is a personal carbon dioxide detector and it goes with me wherever I go....vehicles, buildings etc. I see that there are now keychain breathalyzers available that are quite inexpensive....I think that I'll get one of those as well.
Its sort of like the teacher thing where we hear more and more of them getting involved sexually with students (especially women teachers). Are there more cases and is it a bigger problem than it used to be? Or does it just get reported more? Or is it just sensationalized more? I think in the case of cops, there definitely seems to have been a big change in their attitude and their training as to how they are to react to perceived threats. Having said that, its nice to see a good outcome to this particular story
.
And yet to some on FR, cops can do no wrong.
I want one for my birthday. :D
Thank God for the courage of LEOs.
