The officer could have confiscated the camera and given her a chance to voluntarily hand it over. The camera didn’t have to be destroyed on the spot.
If that's the case why did a full 30+ seconds pass and no commands are heard telling the female with the cell phone to move back? We should have heard it easily because of the fact you can even hear audio of the cell phone striking the sidewalk. I didn't hear any commands directed at her in the audio.
Of course I would think she/they should be able to retrieve the cell video/audio from the smashed phone to see if she had been previously told to back away.
You’ll be okay as long as you never go outside and in public ... :-) ...
A significant number of cops seem to be “stupid enough”!
Sounds like she’s saying “Did you record that?” at the end of the video.
Cop was wrong but given her distracting manner, it’s surprising they didn’t charge her with interfering.
No. The officer should have continued what he was doing instead of breaking the law.
Cops that violate our rights need to be severely disciplined. Probably won’t happen, though.
And the same one will be stupid enough to follow illegal orders to trample your rights.
I suspect that the police officers set themselves up and fully deserve what they are getting. I suspect that the officers in question addressed the public in an uncivil manner and then threw a snit fit here when their attitude was mirrored back at them.
They are civil servants. If their behavior towards their employers (the public) is uncivil, then they have no expectation of respectful treatment by the public. Even if they and their defenders are too damned stupid to understand the concept of reciprocity.
Because of the way she was doing it, she was obviously baiting them to come after her.
If you look at the video its pointed halfway between her and that one cop, planning to catch what she did.
They hit the jackpot.
I don't have a problem with that.
This came up here in Maryland where the police confiscated a mans cameras , computers, phones, because he cammed a cop who pulled him over.
They got a search warrant from a judge with the judges name blacked out.
Maryland’s chief prosecutor ruled that the wiretapping (eavesdropping) law does not apply to police on duty who have no legal expectation of privacy, a stated condition in the law.
Its the law they tried to use on Linda Tripp.
You might be correct. But I don’t know how they could have possibly known the officer was going to do what he did. Even the person taking the video gasped.
Someone with good audio and better hearing than I could possibly hear what she saying.
What one would expect is the cop walking up to her and telling her to back off or be arrested. Not smashing her phone on the sidewalk and then simply walking away as if nothing happened.
This was totally unexpected IMO.
“Yeah, they sure weren’t calling attention to themselves, now, were they?’
Exactly! I mean when you look out your window and the street is filled with Crown Vics with lights in the back windows and a bunch of guys dressed up like they are headed for Desert Storm, “element of surprise” doesn’t flash through your mind as the primary operating methodology being employed. The only thing missing here is an MRAP, but maybe it’s just outside the view of the camera.
Cops usually get aggressive when someone cams them, the best way to do it is what happened here, have a wing-man or two camming also.
Videos like this are very embarrassing for them, they expose what many cops do and how arrogant they are.
I have one black friend here tell me a number of stories of cops bullying him and friends, even pulling guns on him.(They were looking for someone with his general appearance)
His physical appearance indicates he could be dangerous, but he is the nicest guy in the world, goes to church, etc.
I told him the same, thatvideos are powerful these days.
Wow.Reaching much?
Like I say: “The 90% of sh**head cops give the 10% that are decent a bad name.” And I have current and retired LEO’s that are family. They don’t argue with me when I say the above statement to them.
I’m far from a fan of the Jesse Jackson/Al Sharpton/race pimp gang, but if the time to choose a side ever comes, I might find myself choosing a side I never thought I would.
“Cops usually get aggressive when someone cams them”
What a poor excuse. They should expect to be videoed. Period. And need to be, if they act like this. We are not ruled by them. They are civil servants. They are employed by us. They need to remember and respect this. Or get a job appropriate for what they can deal with.
No. I was making a specific response to a specific post by someone else.
If these bad ass roied up cops want to rubble, why not start some crap with the bikers they are surveilling.
No evidence this guy is cop - no writing on his body armour. Just some dude wearing milspec gear wandering the streets, unusual enough to attract attention. Not surprising he wanted no record of it.
