Here’s a video that’s causing an uproar among those who care about photographers’ rights. It’s a 53-second clip recorded on on April 19th that shows an encounter one woman had with police officers on a residential sidewalk in South Gate, California. While shooting photos or footage of the assault rifle-equipped officers with her smartphone, one of the men charges her, snatches the camera from her hands, smashes it on the ground, kicks it back at her, and then walks away.
Details are sparse at the moment, and we’ll update you when more info on this emerges.

I only posted the warning in case people had the volume turned up at work or around kids.
The officer in question must have been intending to do something that he didn’t want anyone to know about.
Best to have a wing-man also camming police so actions like that are caught on cam.

The officer in question should be demoted, punished, and have to buy the woman a replacement phone out of his own pocket.
First of all, she’s doing more than just being a photographer. She’s either in or on the border of the cop’s operational space and she doesn’t shut her mouth the entire time. Second, she’s got someone else recording her, not the cops, which is what normal people would be paying attention to. In my opinion there’s an element of provocation here. She was trying to set the cops up. One was just stupid enough to take the bait.

He should be fired and prosecuted. The last time I checked, if I did this to someone I would be looking at criminal charges for simple assault and destruction of private property.

Operational space? The cop who attacks her moves into her "operational space". She's at least 6+ feet from any copy. And she doesn't shut her mouth. The nerve. Thinking she has a freedom of expression. Everyone knows nowadays when the cops appear you assume the position and shut up.
Not only that but she backed away as he was coming toward her and then he ran to her to do it.
It looks like they set a trap for the cop, someone was camming her while she was camming the police and caught the whole action on the video.
The moral is to have a wing-man to cam you while you are camming police.
Then get the local news-station interested as this cant be legal.
Looks like they are about to serve a warrant and this idiot is calling attention to them.
This episode was legally an assault. He stole her phone and destroyed it to boot.

People who don’t like being recorded can work a non public job and stay out of public places.
