Could it also be that all these jobs stink — that is, they’re part time, temporary and/or seasonal — and pay less than if the unemployed stayed on welfare or whatever assistance they are receiving?

In my area some jobs are posted completely in Spanish; some people don’t want to hire someone familiar with labor law, rights, etc.
The fact is that many of us in that age group have expenses that could never be covered by these McJobs, so potential employers know we could never stay if there was an economic recovery. They hire younger people who barely have the required skills; they get what they pay for, and that is all they want.

I guess they figure if they repeat the lie often enough, it will be true.

If they repeat the lie often enough, it will become the truth. At the end of “Animal Farm”, there are just a couple of old animals that remember the time before the revolt; in a few decades we’ll have the same scenario. Anyone younger than 30 already barely remembers when America was great; the first president they may recall was BJ Clinton.

"The recession ended, it is now a depression." Okay, that does make sense.

Maybe they look around and see how unambitious, incompetent, unqualified people with no experience, employment background or the slightest sense of any moral principle or work ethic get to land a fantastic job, no work schedule, private flying living room, play golf all day, and laugh at the entire world, everybody and anybody and realize, and ask themselves, why bother to struggle getting an advanced education, work slavishly at some dead end job below market pay, while others sleep throughout the day, watch TV, retire at thirty, live off the government at slightly less quality of life standards?

Because the folks laid off were mid-level workers. The jobs that are open are low wage and the hiring managers don’t want to hire someone who is over qualified.
In the end, you just give it up.

I’m on disability, but at one point I entertained the notion of trying to get back to work. I looked at the jobs out there in my profession (I was a legal secretary/ assistant) and then I started looking at generic secretarial jobs. Well, where I live, the legal secretary profession is dying. Law firms and corporations are actually downsizing their support staff. The few jobs there are pay peanuts, have few, if any, benefits and are part time. I’m better off staying on SSD and Medicare.

A permanent, dependent, underclass is nirvana to the Democrats. Their programs seem to be working well to assure that they feel good about themselves while promoting their permanent rule.

Correct.
And the fact that if not for low wage McJobs, the job posting list a couple of dozen “must have requirements” before you may be considered. . .miss just one of those requirements and you are totally passed over by the HR screening software or by the 24-yr old HR bimbo—the same bimbo that knows nothing about the world.
