Tim Tebow joins Chip Kelly's quarterback crew
ESPN ^ | April 19, 2015 | Phil Sheridan

[...] If Belichick, the best coach in the NFL over the past 15 years, doesn't see an NFL quarterback in Tebow, then that would seem to settle the issue. Except that Kelly, who worked Tebow out last month, sees the skills and the physical presence and he can't help himself. It's not just about ego. There's a challenge in finding ways to utilize a player's talents, and Kelly enjoys that challenge.

[...] The point is, Bradford is the presumed starter with Sanchez as the very capable No. 2 quarterback. But if Tebow is able to click in Kelly's offense -- which ran pretty well with the less mobile Sanchez and Nick Foles at the helm -- then all bets are off. With his running ability and his arm, Tebow may just blossom in Kelly's system.

So Kelly brings Tebow in with no pressure and no expectations. The focus is on Bradford, with Sanchez as the pro's pro if something goes wrong. Tebow will get his practice reps. The third-team quarterback gets plenty of practice time in Kelly's go-go training sessions. If Kelly sees the spark that Tebow carried at the University of Florida -- and that flashed once or twice while he was playing in Denver -- then Kelly will have a fascinating choice to make.

He says this a lot, and he really means it. Kelly's football team is a meritocracy. The best player at each position will be on the field. All Kelly is really doing right now is giving Tebow a chance to prove himself better than Bradford and Sanchez -- better, at least, in Kelly's spread offense. [...]

If Tebow had a good arm, he wouldn’t have been out of football since 2012. I hope he spent the past 2 years working on his mechanics.

Belichic was proven right.

"Since then, Tebow, out side of the NFL, has under gone intensive QB passing training to make him a thrower that could compete in the NFL.

Looks like he will get another chance.
I hope it works out for him. - Tom

Kelly worked him out then brought him in - so it looks like he did.

When Kelly got rid of Jackson last year I had a feeling he was going to get rid of players that created drama (bad drama)for the club.

We will see who he picks up in the draft (look to Oregon ),

Kelly is planning long term.

There are other factors. The risk was too high for GMs and coaches alike. You get him, you own all the media and fan pressure.

Kelly has carte blanche now at the Eagles. He’s in charge of player personnel and coaching. I am not sold on Kelly in the NFL, but I am sold on him as a football mind. He was brilliant on the college level. He obviously has a plan in mind for this. He also must feel like he has a lot of good will to burn before his job is at risk...and he’s probably right. He has 2-3 years before they’d dump him, with so much invested in this plan.

Mark my words, interviewers will ask him about nothing other than gay marriage.

If Bradford’s pins (aka knees) last thru August, I’ll be truly surprised. At least Tebow has a more recent playoff resume than the Iggles, so he’s got that going for him.

LOL! They'll be hoping for a "God hates fags"-style answer - and will be disappointed in that hope.

Go, Tim!

He does have a more recent win.

If the Eagles only suit two quarterbacks rather than three, he may not be on the team at all.

The Eagles have always gone three. But there are about a dozen teams that only carry two and the Eagles could always change. So you're right, if they break camp with two then Tebow has to beat our either Sanchez or Bradford.

Yes, Tebow needs a place where he can blossom.

Phiily sports talkers heads will explode first. At the front of that line will be Missanelli, he of the floppy white neck flesh and botoxed tanned face with flapping gums. Torn between groveling to the team and the inherent hatred of the principled Tebow.

Get your popcorn!

3 qb’s under Chip makes sense. Running, throwing combos seem to get injured fast. #3 on the list might be a starter pretty soon, especially when the locals start revolting.

When aren't the locals revolting in Philadelphia?

I think some plays ,ie, the basic halfback pass/run option.
I hope he makes it.

Tebow lost 4 of his last 5 starts. But there are grounds for optimism in Philly - I'm rooting for him.

Reason for signing in two words: Riley Cooper, Tebow’s favorite target at University of Florida.

Eagles 2014 Secondary ranking...

31 Philadelphia

And they add a QB?

Sorry, I like TT, but I don’t get this move at all...

They did sign Byron Maxwell - and will presumably be keeping the secondary in mind during the draft.
